a new year, a new post. hope everyone is enjoying themselves and looking forward to 2012!
I post lots of studies and wips and silly things in The nameless/beer group Sketchbook, among with some incredible friends and artists, so if you're not already subscribed, you have this opportunity to rectify your misfortune.
My first attempt at a CHoW - a very humbling and gratifying experience that has reminded me how much I need to work on my design, so as to not always paint generic people in generic poses. I intend to work on as many weekly challenges this year as I can, my new year's resolution being to "win two challenges in one week". If anything, it should be fun to look back at this post in December.
Some fun stuff
and a portrait of a late hero of mine
Mateja: thanks man
Mark Tarrisse: Thank you very much.
ElenitaVerde: Thank you, a huge compliment
Thdark: That's great to read, thank you!
Alien Ape Star: Thanks! Yeah it's a lot of fun, I need to get back to working on it, haven't really tried the ipad myself.
Mila: Thanks! They were streamed, so the mood overall was really great when i painted them.
Reedux: I know, I know, I really should. I usually think I will do them more often than ends up happening.
LtPlissken: Thanks lieutenant!
drunknmunky: Thank you, I'm glad you find that particular one succesful, it was a lot of fun to paint
Guik: Thank you
n1frit: Thank you, will do!
Koto: Thanks... nothing ever will be... by any artist
vices: Thanks, will do!
Silent-samurai87: Hey man, hope you enjoyed it Thanks for sticking around.
Droid: I... don't, sadly. Thinking about it, but I invariably end up dicking around and showing off because painting slowly and garnering references is probably no fun to watch.
Gloominati: Thanks man
Somelar: Thank you!
sandeepbarot: My pleasure
griffinfly: Thank you, it's an honour as always!
merl1n: Thank you
Eyecager: Thanks! Always a pleasure to see you here
andres333: I don't have either! That would certainly make things easier, but I have no time to maintain anything like that. I will announce future ones here in advance.
hücumkedi: Nothing special, just a habit digital still lifes got me into.
Mane: Nope, sadly I don't like the idea of storing old events, the fun is in the moment and chatting with people, though this is really only forgiveable if I streamed more often
Alrap: Thank you!
ConnyNordlund: Thanks! 2012 is going to have a sure concentration on more personal stuff, I have seen the light
Alex: An honour, now get back to it!
Pkmike: Thank you, I'm happy to hear it!
Reedux again, and Aryeh: I guess I should stream soon huh!
Overtoom: Thank you.
Aragah: Thanks man
Nyoron: Thanks! Glad you caught the stream, and enjoyed the music!
dU5K: Thanks! I know, the only way I can beat that without painting worse is to post more, so I'll need to do that
teapo: All those recordings are long gone and deleted, they really aren't that entertaining to watch in retrospect but I'll consider it if I ever do a more instructional stream or some painting I can be proud of

great update olly ! that painterly touch you have with digitals is uber nice. hmm.. the only thing that bothers me with your latest CHOW entry is the back part of the girl's head. it seems as if the back part of the cranial mass is missing XD. perhaps it is just the angle it's meant to be viewed at?
either way great stuff as always. i'm sure you can branch out and develop awesome designs-- i need to do that myself! happy new year!
i really love the lightning in that interior piece
only crit is the face of the female warrior - looks a bit odd the eyes are a bti big and teh overall shape of the face seems a bit wrong - dont know but its a great piece inspite of that
Great work! Like Xbert, but only crit is with reference to the female knight, the second last of the four developments is much more solid than the very last one, so I would suggest(if one were so inclined!) to go from there and take another stab at it. Her arm, holding the helmet, has better weight and in the existing final piece the elbow moves, as well as the space that opens in the crook of the elbow doesn't look right. And the arm's too thin for all that armour.
That said, I really like the second last of the progress pieces, so i hope this helps.
keep up the cool work!
Hey Tehmeh, looking as awesome as ever!
Interesting few progress shots on the ChoW, did you know what you were doing when you started or did you just go with it?
I think you could use some more value variation on the ceiling on the dream home painting, maybe darken the shadows a bit.
Better than ever as always, thanks for the update.
amazing stuff TM!!

Just wanted paintings for this post to say: I have a website portfolio now! - http://www.ollylawson.co.uk/
telohs: Thank you, mood is everything to me so that's good to hear, something I still need to think more about though.
teapo: yeah everyone is saying that, i thought i had it okay but maybe gave her too big eyes/messed up the face. stared at it for 2 days painting nonstop so i'll redo it in a while with fresh eyes. good luck with that as well
blueflies: thank you! what a compliment!
MacTire: thanks! I wasn't particularly going for an oil look, so it's interesting you should say that, I imagine it's just the layout of the picture.
Kristoff: Thank you man, light is everything
sourgasm: Thank you
xbert: yeah i definitely messed up there, gonna redo after a break of looking at it.
The_Flying_Dutchman: you are right, interesting ponit, kinda blinded myself to that arm especially. Will have to have another go eventually.
Kvenh: Not really, figured out I wanted armour at some point and it went from there, that's a great point about the values on the ceiling, I'll paint that in now.
Molina: Thanks man, why don't you post your paintings here?
Metal Fingers: Thanks!!
Velocity Kendall: Thank you
ChaosTheory: Thanks! Good point, i will play about with that.
FootstepsBeckon: Aye aye cap'n
DefiledVisions: Hey man! No problem, good to see you around.
Call0ps: Thanks man
Nyoron: thank you
