Crash Course for Artists, Illustrators, and Cartoonists, NYC, the 2013 Edition!
"Work is more fun than fun."
"Art is supposed to punch you in the brain, and it's supposed to stay punched."
I never thought I'd have to say this out loud, but I'm becoming convinced that at some point, certain subject threads in this forum become less productive, interesting and useful than masturbation....
No position or belief, whether religious, political or social, is valid if one has to lie to support it.--Alj Mary
Ironically, the concept of SIMPLICITY is most often misunderstood by simple-minded people. --Alj Mary
Females on the other hand are more receptive to physical contact. In fact they are walking sensory gunpowder kegs. Even something as ridiculous as an ear nibble can send a sexual sensation through them, so it's probably even easier for them to get stimulated.
Erotica and porn while having the same goal (to arouse the viewer), achieve that goal differently. The arousal behind porn comes from watching and identifying directly with what's going on. Arousal behind erotica is prompted more so by the imagination.
And i'd say imagination on many levels is more potent of a stimulator than any visual or physical contact.
Oh wow... I'm a Christian, a rather radical one, as well, but I'll stay out of this. I can't believe some of you guys, especially the original poster. Why can't stuff be discussed nowdays without name calling, stereotyping, and taking it personal?
And you, xzacto, could've made a thread about the existence of pornography and what people think about it. The world isn't Christian, so we can't just push our standards on it.
Would you consider this sexual?
I really don't mean offence to anyone. So dont take this that way please.
very clever, it took me some time to realize what was so unique about this piece.
Yup I would surely call this sexual art .... and since I dont like Bush, I love this piece of true art... thanks, you made my day. And the rest of his art in his website is very good.
So you think , that you are a noob ? Wait till you see my sketchbook.

If by "the art community" you mean CA then answer is simple. No. There is nothing (apart from quality, that is) on this site you couldnt find in mainstream media.
Since the answer to the first question is negative, the two next ones are unanswearable.
I thought your message was sweet--I've wondered sometimes [about lots of things] "is there a place for me here?" Or, "how much does it matter that I feel like a complete outsider?" Well, that was the part of your question that interested me. At least, I think that was what you were asking.
About the rest--um no, I don't think art has gotten a lot more lewd lately. Or if it has, then my art history profs in college were total lying pervs!
[No, just kidding, I don't want to soft pedal that. I spent some summers in grad school reading Renaissance original latin and italian and english tracts and, if anything, my undergrad teachers glossed over some awesomely salacious material. I think sex in art is for keeps. Ditto with pervy-ness wherever there are a lot of dudes: among sailors, soldiers, mechanics, investment bankers, corporate lawyers...]
So anyway of course there's a place for you, wherever you want that to be. Of course there is.
I tried to think of some examples for argument's sake of earnestly Christian artists who don't ever "push sex" if not "sexual limits"--geez it's not easy! At least, not off the top of my head. Stanley Spencer? Um, wait no--there are some very terrifying nudes of his nutty lesbian mistress... William Blake? Nevermind.
I googled around for you and found a super-Christian super-young artist who's been successful painting still lifes (no nudity there, natch) in the middle-of-nowhere California. He was even homeschooled. And he's never been to art school. How much more of an art world outsider could he be? That's the new REAL Outsider Art movement: Outsider Art Christians! (vs the Outsider Art that comes from artists in LA with MFAs--which, yeah, I dig). So, you're not the only Christian outsider. Now go get 'em! Shapes and colors!
I read abt him here: http://www.artistdaily.com/blogs/fea...-the-odds.aspx
Here is his website: http://danielkeysfineart.com/about
Also, here is one thing I WISH were more sexy: life drawing class with nude models. Is there anything less erotic? It's always too early in the morning to be drawing some old guy with boobs and a wispy ponytail. Not a turn-on.

Yeah - life drawing is not a sexy thing - your brain has to switch into study mode instead of appreciation mode. Same thing happens when looking through soft-core for poses - very much not erotic - until maybe one catches your eye then you can feel the gears switch - it's weird.
I checked that kid,s website...so not self-taught. He's a Richard Schmid clone to the nines. That was clear from the start then I read his bio...I always thinks that's a shame - he's not the only one of course.
I am a glass of coca-cola....and while my body may be fully sensual....moist...little... white Sunday school wearing cheerleader skirt. i am hard on the outside a full bottle so to speak. when the rain comes down i weep! did that get you hot?///??

I think the line is to vague to call on artistic sexualism...I mean, there's sensuality, sexuality, then pornographic.

Yeah, if you're attending a life drawing class right after spending yourself on your wife, girfriend or whatever, at which point all women can spontaniously combust for all you care.
We once had some young vietnamese dancer model who could contort herself into poses i have never freakin seen a human do before and with nipples so hard and pointy she could cut glass.. For about 60% of dudes in class including me, there was far more observation than actual drawing. And to make it wurst she was an exhibitionist at heart, and the more she noticed us stare, the more provocative she got.
Life drawing is not sexy, the model deffinetly was. And it's not our brain that did the 'appreciating' at that point, unless one conciders thinking about all the nasty stuff he'd do to her as 'apreciation'.
