Hi Mike, Manga studio creates a printable gray-scale. Unfortunately a screenshot wouldnt work due to the translation from a 600dpi print to a Jpeg/gif or video, you simply would see a approximated dithering effect.
My suggestion is try a demo from smith Micro's website.
The Inking pens are nice, the pencils will create this gray effect, the markers are set at being a constant (no variation during the stroke), the pencils give variation and multiply with overlap (adjust the brush size larger, like a marker)
The thing is, MS creates gray that is printable, which is important to comic book styled drawing/inking which is meant to be printed on paper.
However if you are creating art for just web, you might want to adjust a painter marker setting (I only use Painter 4 Expressions, so my knowledge with the over versions is limited. You will get a better idea, hands-on, with the MS demo, to see if this is the effect you want.
