Thanks Vermis .
Update on the commission (needs a lot of work, very much prone to change) and a photocopy to practice my color observation skills (no eye dropper used).
Oh, almost forgot this one. I've been practicing humans lately and I thought I'd see what I could do, so I went and started sketching without reference. I don't know why I chose this ridiculous perspective, I think my initial reasoning was that I wanted to see if I really understood the shape of the human head. Turns out I don't, haha. More practice it is then!
Gesture practise, I know I need to do hundreds more but this was as many as I could do today :/.
Xerenity: Hey, thanks!
Finally then some scans, more gesture practice and lastly a concept page of a creature design for school. Or, well, we were given a creature to work with and told to implement it into a game somehow. It's a re-do of the thumbnails above, where I turned it into an enemy. I was told the concept wasn't strong enough so I decided to rethink the thing and realized that I could play with the living-dead design it originally has by turning it into a reincarnation/respawn site. Still not entirely sure which one I'm going with but I'm favoring #4 at the moment.
Wow!! you've been busy! I'm sorry I havnt been around for a while I've been busy too. I liked the gesture drawings you did up there they are very good.
The one for school up above has a certain something too, but could you fade the mountains in the rear a little more to bring the creature thing forward a little more but other than that its good and I like it.
all the best my mate
Thanks both .
Redo of the Gatekeeper image. Hated the composition and was thankfully given permission to cheat into making it wider, though the overall size still had to be 1024x768. I was also allowed to remove the girl (thank god), replaced her with the tree and bird as I did want to have something in the foreground.
Tiger study, got a little carried away though . Logically, as they're such beautiful animals. Also a little bit of a break/relief from all of the stuff I -must- do; this is something I simply wanted to do. Most of it was done on the train using my phone to look for reference images, I guess all in all it took me about 1,5 hours.

Just dropped in to say that the new version looks way better for a few tweaks!!
all the best gotta dash!!
The vista in the two dragons one is very good indeed my mate, you may need to make the trees in the distance a tiny bit smaller for my money but as that would take ages and be a pain in the butt we will gloss over that and put it down to me needing glasses!
I like the valkerie too even though I want her armour to be functional not a fashion accessory, but clients want what they want I suppose!
all the very best to you my mate and just in case I missed you out I will say it again:-
Merry christmas and a happy new year! all the best
Your sketchbook shows some really impressive growth.

Lightship: Thanks! I'm all for functional armor design myself as well, but quite frankly I don't know too much about armor yet and the target audience couldn't care less about functionality so long as it looks good, heh.
Bai Fan: Thank you very much!
Time for an update I suppose. Two commission sketches (not the proper values yet on the first, it's all going to be rather soft) and one finished. I'm really trying to loosen up in my painting technique. I regret not getting commissions for humanoids more often, I certainly do enjoy drawing the human figure!
I really like these images and also the way you handle light and value.
Risen from the Dead
Ugh! This sketch book is delicious! Beautiful concepts and execution! I especially love seeing how you develop the story with these skeletal creatures!
Also I want to say thank you for making such useful posts on the wip. showcase area. Your posts are always worth reading.

just swung by to see whats new! and as usual I am quietly impressed by your brilliance, he he he I do like the bird dude thingy, you have spent some time there sorting lighting and textures etc, its nice that one.
stay well my mate and keep posting.
artsymptom: Thanks! I'm glad you think so .
Flashback: Thank you!
MoKhi: Thanks very much for the kind words!
bish0p2004: Heh, thanks!
Lightship69: Hey friend . Hehe thanks a lot for the encouragement and kind words as always!
Working on a couple of things, mostly a ridiculously painstaking freelance assignment that I'm not allowed to share (and not really willing; it's not really portfolio material), but I've been trying to keep working on stuff on the side.
First a WIP of a Bougereau master study, some schoolwork, random elemental creature designs and thumbnails for an aerial fighter character (probably going for 1 or 8).
Nice stuff, it's a pleasure to browse through.
On the gatekeeper:
Maybe it would be a little more interesting if you could break the horizon line.
You could make the tree bigger, so it crosses it, for example.
The yould also be slightly more clouds I think. You could use them to fill the sky and to give a compositional line to the guardian.
Looking at you other anatomies (humans dragons or whatever), this skeleton looks a little rough and less detailed. The ribs do not actually describe a rib cage and the spine should have spikes on the back side, like the human spine too.
And a spine is not a flat band like this, it's many single bones.
You should also reconsider how exactly the bone structure is supposed to hang there. Does it just stand there or does it acutally hang on theses ropes ?
If it's the ropes, they should be more straight, since they hold the weight, instead of passing by the bones and then coming up again.
I hope that helps a bit.
Keep it up.
rumpenstiltzkin: Thanks a lot !
Medelo: Thank you!
shockowaffel: Hey, thanks! I wasn't planning on working on that pic anymore, but I can definitely see what you mean. I didn't think of him as actually hanging from those ropes, I imagined him as more of a "ghost" that you can see from this side, but not anymore once you passed into the other world. Thanks for the crits though, good points!
I can't believe I haven't looked since October. All still brilliant! I especially like the last 'grounddweller' piece (the 'Oh sh*t' one). Fantastic atmosphere.
(That's like something I imagine for a split-second, when blackbirds burst out of a hedge right beside me.)
