Vritra - thanks for the crit! yea, the lightsource was initially from the front/ top left (our left) , but i somehow just let it spread, and get white hot. i gotta do some studies... but i have no time...
thanks for all the replies everyone! you guys rock!!
this is just a quick scribble because i had a free second in my dorm...
Strong lines and straight to the point. Great work love it.
The last update is looking really good. The decision to stick with high opacity really worked, I think. Reminds me of Samurai Champloo somehow.
Two things to say here. Firstly, there are some low opacity brushstrokes around the nose which takes away from the consistency of the rest of the image. And secondly, I can't see where the headphones come from, or maybe that's part of the design?
Overall, in my opinion, this is a strong update. Please keep the art coming.
I like this last post, and yeah it really does remind me of samurai champloo, which can only be a good thing! No crits from me, just keep doing what you're doing
mjasnowski - thanks bro! gotta drop by your book to see what your workin on!!
Mitze - thanks!!
rumpenstiltzkin - thanks!! glad you like!
Vritra - thank you very much! means alot! i appreciate the crit too, even though it was just sort of a loose scribble. but yea, i was too lazy to add the tops of the headphones, so i decided to just call it artistic freedom haha. thanks for dropping by again!
ThomasM - i dont know where this samurai champloo thing is coming from, but thanks! i love that show!
tokotewhero - uuuugh. i fail to see it haha, i feel crappy for the praise, and i have been so lazy lately, but thanks man! always good to see you popping by! ill get some markr action going for you soon! haha
xbert - thank you man! making me feel bad... not enough improvement!!
Lhune - wow, thank you very much! i really appreciate the kind words!!
decided to FINALLY end this fucking epic spell of laziness by entering the newest chow! this is seriously the first thing i have drawn since that last post!!!! HOLY FUCK! to give you a reference, i usually draw/paint like 20 things that i dont ever post, so for the amount of things i DO post... yea. i have been in an EPIC slump!!!
time to get back on that saddle!!
Cool stuff , and thanks for stopping by my sketchbook
danlambert - yea, definately! i was thinking like old windmill, maybe some village. thanks bro!
ErikR - thanks! and no prob!
fighter doodle. its still very early for me... class was cancelled due to flash floods. so to re-cap... this year, so far, we have had 1)an earthquake, 2) a class 1 hurricane, 3) flash flooding... YES LORD? SOMETHING WE SHOULD BE PREPARING FOR???!
danlambert - haha yea, that must be true. in that case, ill actually listen.
another quick sketch for the chow. now i dont even know what im planning. im just doodling, and seeing what happens. kinda looks like namor.
I just joined this website yesterday because I have to start drawing concepts at college as part of my course, and wow. The first sketchbook I looked at was good, but I lost interest quickly. Your sketchbook was the second I encountered, and I have literally bombarded through all 52 pages of this thread and looked at your work. All I can say is your actually amazing Keep up the good work man!
AJTM - wow!! thanks man! that must have taken a while!! glad you liked it, that means alot!!
no87 - yea, shit! i always forget about that damn rule! oh well, i guess i can always extend the canvas.
back at home for the weekend, so i got a chance to scan some pages in from my new sketchbook. so some marker stuff (that i actually drew by candlelight during hurricane irene when the power went out!) and some mech stuff inspired by John Park, and some Vagabond sketches too!
e n j o i !
Hey Nick mate, nice updates dude. I'm looking forward to seeing that CHOW finished. As for the last image, I think you've managed to pull of the cell-shaded look, especially in the clothes. Keep em coming man.
i just signed up to enter that comicon challenge over at GameArtisans.org. it took me a looong time to pick a comic character to use, there is a shit ton of people entering it, and all of the mainstream comic characters are being done multiple times so i went with a much more elusive character... and one of my absolute favorites! Goku, the Monkey King! (specifically the manga that was written, and painted by Katsuya Terada)
sooo, this is my first sketch of the real monkey king (Terada's version), just to get a feel for all of the little garments and things he wears.
nice chopper study! loving how you handled the heli blades. looking forward to your finished chow here as well (I think the only reason it looks like namor is the hair)
oops didnt see that last post. woww looking very chaotic but quite intense. looking forward to future versions
