yes, some new comic character stuff! Great updates Nicky
Hey, you ignored my comment! >.>
Hah ha, never mind that. As always, great work as far as conveying energy is concerned. In the Hulk piece, is that supposed to be Wolverine up front? It's looking a little like Flash right now. Do remember that Wolverine is 5'2", so he's beefy and stocky. Very broad, and square.
Also, a comic cover/pinup would normally not be so static. It's not about two well-drawn guys hanging around, especially not the Hulk! The anatomy/proportion issues actually take a back seat on a comic cover to the design/attention-grabbing dynamism.
Hope that helps. Keep doing what you're doing.
Hulk is looking good. I look forward to seeing it finished.
Dude, it's great to see you working so hard! Really great stuff.
That said, I think you could still benefit from some painting from observation. A lot of your pieces from imagination seem to be less contrasted, which is not to say that they need to be darker, but it's much easier to judge composition/clarity when the value structure is in place as early as possible.
Also, here's a fun homework assignment: look at some porn. The way you're depicting boobs currently makes them feel a little, solid? I'd like to see more weight and squishiness if you know what I mean.
Keep going man, can't wait for what's next!
Very good stuff, keep on working hard!
art is never finished, only abandoned~Leonardo da Vinci
Lav - heyyyy girrrl! ha thanks for dropping by!!
Vritra - shit dude! sorry! i totally must have spaced on the other comment! woops aha. yea thats supposed to be wolverine in front of the hulk there. i guess he is more beefy, i just was winging this one from imagination so blah haha . i guess if i ever get into comics i will be horribly inconsistent. yet another thing to add to the to do list. ha it never ends. thanks for the input bro! always highly appreciated!!
KONM - thanks man! unfortunately you probably will never see this finished... neither will i for that matter...
DIMAGYAN - thanks man!! really? i dont really see the flash, but i guess thats because i was trying to make wolverine haha, but thanks for dropping by!
Farquad - why cant you be my teacher for school? watch porn. haha awesome. although i may have to just save some screenshots, if i try to pause ill be too tempted to.. nevermind....
ezekrialase - thanks man!! will do!!
i havent painted shit in AGES!!! fucking hell. school work is taking over my pitiful life. heres a quick 2 hr sculpt in progress. for class.
HEY NICKY! Lookin' good my man, glad to see you constantly updating even when school has ya down, wish i could do the same. Those random shapes on the last page were looking promising as well, did you ever fill them all in? Please share 'em when you do!
While you're doin' good you still seem to be stick drawing the same thing over and over (im very guilty of this as well), may i suggest trying out something different? Get some mechanical reference and start copyin' away, fill up some pages with so many pipes gears and wires that you dont know where to look, and then draw a bunch of robots when your head is flooded with all the information you've absorbed. Just a thought.
Oh, another thought, do you ever mess around with the liquify filter in photoshop(assuming you use photoshop)? If not i bet it would be your new love. You can easily go into a drawing and tweak weird anatomy and overall placement of things you've already drawn. I hope you dont mind but i went and played around a bit with your Wrath man with some nice results~ http://i371.photobucket.com/albums/o...kyBliquify.jpg Once you get things where you want you can paint over like any other drawing. Hope you like what this tool has to offer, i use it all the time.
Keep it up man, i'll be around

Not sure if the upper chest to lower waist is just more refined already but it looks really nice man very smooth and natural transition between shapes. The face looks a little more dependent on line (not that I have room to talk of course ^^ it's all looking great though, the chest just looks very clean for some reason
keep up the awesome progress man
Your art is horrible!! Stay with your crummy life at school!!!!!
Okay, I kid - you know I love you man! Anyways what Austen wrote was great, definitely taking notes. Hope to see you do wrath....going to catch up to you though!
See ya bro.
Striving to be the best that is possible before I conk into the grave.
My Sketchbook! Critique EVERYTHING!!
AustenFM - yea man i hear you, i do that all the time. i just got a bunch of different material renders from a website, so hopefully ill be doing a bunch in the future. maybe that will force me to start painting/drawing things differently. thanks for stopping by man!!
Medusoid - oh yea dude, i wasnt finished with that one, i felt like zooming in and rendering up at least a portion of it to a higher level, so that i wouldnt keep it all loose and messy like i normally do.
spitboi7 - hey brother Ali! thanks for stopping by man! keep scanning those pages in!!! your falling behind.
i saved a TON of 3D material test renders from a great site... http://www.vray-materials.de/all_materials.php . they have a bunch of different material types, and its great for doing material studies. so thats what im gonna be doing for the next year straight haha.
danlambert - hmm havent heard of the strain books. is that a graphic novel or an actual book? either way, thanks man!! good to see you on here again!!
material study #2 - Welded Steel
Hey Nicky, thanks again for that post in my SB! Hahaha, you rock. I love the sculpts and your Wrath guy, very cool. The material studies look pretty good too. I think in the second one all the little scribblies kinda took over the form in places, but hey, big whoop.
Cheers man, be well!
[Edit] "be well" psh, lame. Be Awesome.

Hey Nicky, great sketchbook you have over here, and I hear you about the painting - sometimes things just get on top of you and you can't produce much for a while.
I'm liking all the recent updates, although I think personally the seven deadly sins one could use a little more work.
I know that in TAD almost all of the instructors use an ideation process which involves thumbnailing, and I was wondering if you'd done any yourself for this piece? Anyway, its all good, keep on doing what you're doing and roll on page 100 (or 1000!)
Mhugo - thanks man! yea im planning on reworking that character. im also taking a whack at the dragon rider chow too. probably wont finish due to my class load, but hopefully it will spark some cool ideas. thanks for stopping by!
Mr. Corlan - haha no dude YOU ROCK! haha. i totally hear you on the second material study, i did lose the real texture and forms a bit with the scribbly details. it works better when you squint haha. keep up the great work man! im gonna be by your sketchbook very soon to return the favor! thanks again man!
ThomasM - thanks man! i appreciate you stopping by! youve been kicking ass lately! glad to see you rightly got bumped up to 5 stars!!! your really stepping up your game! as far as thumbnailing goes, i dont really have a really solid methodology yet for creating art. i take alot of different approaches, and sometimes it works great and most of the time its just meh. but i do start out everything pretty loose most of the time. when i am just sketching i like to start with clean lines, and details, but when i am trying to plan out an image for illustration or a good concept, i like to start loose and then just refine refine refine. thanks for stopping by!!
i want to do a collaberation.
does anybody want to do a collab with me? hit me up, i need a good challenge!!!!
Looking good, man! Very cool characters, and your zbrush models are pretty cool as well. One thing I'm noticing in your figures is a certain stiffness in their postures, try to experiment more with gesture work, but focus more on flow and look for larger shapes in their poses rather than looking at their anatomy. And experiment with more poses for your characters rather than the generic frontal semi-symmetrical standing pose. Also in your painting and rendering you have a lot of messy linework on the edges that seems to conflict with your character's forms a bit. A problem that I am trying to eliminate myself actually.
Keep doing what your doing though! Lots of good stuff your generating!
Wow.. the diversity. I am so going to take advantage of this site hehehi saved a TON of 3D material test renders from a great site... http://www.vray-materials.de/all_materials.php . they have a bunch of different material types, and its great for doing material studies. so thats what im gonna be doing for the next year straight haha.
Cool concept for CHOW. However, right now I can't make out much below its neck, and I'm also not sure how the wings attach to the main body.
I also see that you've started to work with textures, which is great. Do try using different brushes for textures, though. Because digital doesn't have the tactile quality of a traditional brush, a hard round cannot give you the range of a normal paintbrush. This is why it's necessary to switch to different brushes for textures, digitally.
Overall, I think you're doing great. Also, thanks for your support in my sketchbook.
Vritra - hey thanks for stopping by again! i honestly have no real clue how to go about using textures. i dont use photoshop, i use painter, i think i figured out a way to do it a while ago by changing the paper type or something, but i gotta play around with it alot more. i started using the chalk brush alot more though, which does produce some sort of texture, albeit not much. but i will try to work on this! thanks again! oh and forget that dragon sketch...it was just a loosy goosy.
FAST ART - shapegamer? not sure if i get what you mean ha. but thanks man!
ok heres something i did while at work today. nobody came in for tutoring, so i decided to just paint a landscape from imagination. chalk brush for the win.
Like that last one too, nice evangelic ring to it :p But maybe to spice it up you could vary the texturing from background to foreground? Some foreground elements would be welcome in any case. But now i wanna see some FIGURE studies! Presto!
