Here's what I did in last nights life drawing class.
It's an 1.5 hour pose, so it doesn't look like much but I really took my time focusing on accuracy.
An hour and a half? I don't know much about life drawings but that seems like very little for such a long time. Is the focus on capturing a likeness or getting an idea of the light and shading?
I use MSPaint.
Kaileighblue In this lesson the tutor reeaally wanted us to show that we understood fully the method of measuring (with the pencil and refernce points etc.). Tone didn't come into it all.
So I really took my time to get it as accurate as I could. Obviously these studies will improve and I will get quicker over time - but at the moment I'm still pretty fresh.
Hey Josh I totally understand the whole slowing down idea and focusing on observation. I think you've done well and you most certainly have got more down than I can. I often don't have many lines at all but my teacher always stresses that it is better to have a few accurate well placed lines then a finished inaccurate drawing. I think your doing. Keep going.
Marian Rowling Thanks a lot for you feedback man I appreciate it. And my teacher says exactly the same thing.
Been a couple weeks since I've posted and I should have more to post but most of it is at college so I can't.
Here is the first two pages (both WIP's) of mine and my friends comic we are working on. I am more than stoked on this and determined to make it awesome.
Then there's a birthday card I made for a friend.
Some life drawing stuff. We're onto tonal work now and I am happy with these pieces. The first is unfinished.
And some other crap.
haha i love the lionhead guy dont know if u wanted it to look funny but the posé make him look so "tired".
Your hatching is so tight! Really cool stuff you have going on here.
derss Hey thanks man. And yeah that's exactly what I wanted! Sweet.
LieutenantHanz Cheers buddy!
Merry Christmas! Bit late but whatever.
Here's a couple bits I've done. I have some paintings done but I need to photograph those and I don't have a camera. My painting is coming on well so I will have to get some pictures up.
First one is a jokey present for my bud.
Second is a Christmas doodle.
hey josh. painted fist about halfway up is excellent! really nice work.
some of your heads get a little fattened and squished. make sure you make them tall enough.
Got hold of a camera!
The first I think im gonna leave where it is. Dunno why I just don't wanna add to it. It's dry now as well...
The second is a WIP. Really struggling with the eyes. Redone them over and over but I can't get them right.
Definitely think my painting is improving though.
This "comic" you've been working on really is interesting. It's compels me to look at it, so I guess you've achieved something from that.
These paintings are incredible! Somehow the pastiness of your skin has an awesome amount of color in it. It's really great, something you should be very proud of.
Really nice work! Your sketches are wonderful!
Well hello! Been a while. Since January in fact... Wow. Guess I got lazy.
Still been drawing though. So here's some shit...
The pigeon flying over clouds is a copy of a Jeremy Geddes painting.
And the last one is a big ol' charcoal self portrait I am currently working on. Really getting into going big at the moment...
I've done a bunch of other stuff which is over on my flickr:
And recently started a snazzy blog (don't be put off by the title):
I Hate You
I'll see if I can keep this more updated, more for my documentation more than anything.
Great update Josh. I really like your self portraits. I think my favourite is the pencil cross hatched one. Something very wistful about your look in it. My only crit would be that something looks a little off with your right eye. Also lovin the scale of your charcoal one. Think its just brilliant that your doing stuff that huge. Can't wait to see what you do next
Marian Rowling Hey man! Thanks the reply, and yeah I know what you mean with that, there is something wrong with the eyes. Ah well.. ha. This friday I'm starting the biggest painting I've ever done. Somewhere in the region of 2.2m x 1.8. Should be fun, I'll try and keep that posted.
In the mean time I've been addicted to all this graphic stuff since I've started the blog... It is fun I must admit.
beautiful sketchbook. It's nice to see you motivated and eager to learn.
I really love your last self portrait. My only suggestion is to try and experiment with contrast a little more.
Keep up the good work, cheers!
Of all the people in this forum I haven't laughed so much skimming through people's artwork. The work's payin' off and I love your style, inspired me to be a little less serious with my artwork.
Thanks, I needa post my work up here sometime as well.
Metal Fingers Hey cheers man! Yeah must say, I've noticed myself all the studies have helped. Satisfying...
Dope Fiend That's one of the best resonses I've had on here man! Suhweet. S'all about having a laugh. And that's cool man I'll keep an eye out for you sketchbook.
Here's some tingz from today:
