o so lucky !!!!!
great she looks better !!! can't wait to see moooore !!!!!!!
but monney-man scared me !!!! XD interesting !!
see you !!!!
waaa I 'm feeling so active on CA in this time XD lol !
AlexTooth - Thanks Alex! Yes, i should vary the lines a bit, but because of the contours i did these days, i felt like doing the lines as i did; i varied them in this posts leg studies just to see if i still can ahaha
thank you for the other tips too and oe week and half to go! till holiday!!
GweNdZ - I am curious where it will go too!! Especially when i think i can't do anything more on it, and i end up retouching it so much more!!
Thank you for your comment and of course i come n try to say something useful in your sb!! After all, you come and cheer me up sooo often!
Katanasoul - DANG!! So true!! Thank you very very much!! I worked some more on the pose because of you, and i really really hope it is good this time! If not..i really don't know what i can do more to it; right now..i'd need a break from it because i can't see anything ahaha
Bullsey - Aww~ Thank you very much bullsey!
Mischeviouslittleelf - But of course i will!!!
whisperss - AAAND the new post is already here!! Thank you whisp!!
Yesss i can't WAIT for the holiday!! And to work on the next chow that will come I feel more confident now
but..why did the fortune jiny scare you?! : (
So i'm back!!
And i worked some more on my CHOW! I really, REALLY hope the pose is right this time, buecaise i don
t know what more i could do to it!!!!
I did some knee-thigh-leg studies to make sure i get it right!
See you guys n gals tomorrow
The only thing I´d like to add is that now, the position of the head isn´t quite right. The neck is a little long and the head is a bit too far on the left (from viewer).
It´s not that much, I think if you correct that, it will become a really nice painting. I look forward seeing it!
Ok after looking at the chow sketch I figured what's the problem, her upper body is facing towards us right? but from the waist down it is on an angle so it makes it look awkward, you can fix that by bringing the rock down a bit and changing her left leg angle. but then again maybe you intended for the leg to go in this unique position?

Exam today, test tomorrow, i am really beat!
So not much today..i tried repositioning the CHOW and fixing the neck in the first pose, tried to fix her pose too, so thanks Katanasoul, Danny_K, miycko,
And like Vatsel said, i tried drawing her in different ways, and came up with a little feathered idea too..
I think i will work more on her face characteristics for a while because i really don't know how i want to draw her at this point..i just kept trying n trying n tried to get that pose done, but it's still no good!!..i can't even draw a hand right any more >_< i am..tired
So i'll work more on my values as B-Man suggested, and perhaps do a master study? So thank you guys once more for your hep!!!
And i would like to ask a few questions because i am not sure what it means, and i can't find some exact information.
What does a master study actually mean?!
What dose composition actually mean?!
Basically what dose it mean to draw thumbs?!
And i really want to work on these CHOWS from now on, but i see some have a process..they do little studies and value, clothing, face expression studies and so on..what i want to know is what else can one do? what do YOU do when you design a character and prepare for a CHOW? I want to...to change my routine, to keep me going..and to keep me going every day!, without feeling tired!!
Thank you for having patience with me so far, and i'll try my best to not slack off!!
you start many things !! the pose of your chow looks better but I think she looks like a bit lazy because of her neck and head pose ^^' !
others looks fine too love your hat design !!
I personaly putt all main and simple colors everywhere even if anatomy is not good, in fact I think I don't draw line, just colors! XD and then I work on it and I always start by the face XD don't know why ! and after I work a bit everywhere (even if the face isn't finish) (and it's now that I design clothes and all but I never had idea when I start it XD and personaly clothes idea depend a lot of the pose... ) and come back into detaaaillsss ! eemmmm well hope that is what you asked XD lol !
and for the money-man XD don't know, his expression , maybe how he looks at us !!! :o
good luck with your test !!!! *hug*
see youuu !
Composition a very important subject, is from the word compose, just as a musician would put certain musical elements to create his music composition same applies for art.
A good composition could be the difference between an piece of art that the viewer will spend time looking at or just have a glimps for 2 seconds and move on even though you spent countless hours on the piece and it has tons of detail, a common mistake of beginner artists to avoid learning composition.
its the way you set all the elements in your painting, the place you put your main character, the way you put emphasis on certain things and the way you treat positive/negative space, and lead the viewers eye throughout the painting and so on. more on this and positive/negative space in here.
http://www.wetcanvas.com/ArtSchool/C...gIt/index.html - very good explanation about pos/neg space.
http://www.androidblues.com/visualperception.html - visual perception and Aesthetics also very important to understand
http://sevencamels.blogspot.com/2008...mposition.html Loomis words of wisdom, just awesome.
Draw thumbs means to draw little square thumbnails before the actual painting, it's like a small quick comic thumbnail sketch it could be color or just a quick sketch to help you to put down some rough ideas and so you can go back to it later.
For getting better at chow, I would suggest going through anatomy books, head books, doing gesture drawings, and figure studies, that way you will have a wide library of Proper anatomical knowledge and all sort of convincing poses you can just freely release from your imagination, but of course it takes quite some practice to draw the human form convincingly, it's my battle too and I feel I get better every time I draw some figures for few hours from Loomis book.

A "master study" is copying a master work from one of the great masters (living or dead--usually the dead ones).
You can also learn from master works by putting a piece of tracing paper or "trace" over a master work (a copy of it, naturally) and tracing it.
I'm going to be doing these for the next month or so ...
Here's a site with some master works
Hey ya, thanks for tuning in. I see you are quite the hard worker yourself, keep it up with those studies and then try to implement the things you learned in a drawing from imagination. That'll sort things out quicker
About your CHOW,
I think you're still having some trouble with the neck, shoulders and torso, and arms.
I'm probably wrong, but it almost looks like in the pursuit of the ideal 8-head figure you've stretched the neck quite long. If you find your figure just a little short of your desired proportions, somewhere in the torso (waist or ribcage) or in the legs (a little in the thighs and a little in the lower legs) are the best places to stretch the figure. Even if I just completely misinterpreted, it's a good thing to keep in mind.
The shoulders are a little formless, and a little wide on one side. And the arms seem just a tad too long (maybe that was the point though, I dunno).
I think you could do more with the pose. Right now it's very passive. Maybe you wanted to convey that quality in her, but to me her body-language is saying that she's bored and doesn't want to be there. Like she has to pose for a mothers day picture when all she can think about is flying around and do mischief and other stuff that the Morrigan usually does. Maybe you could let her rest the hand that's just hanging there on her hip? Or maybe she can have both arms resting on the sword? Think about the pose and how to make it engaging and interesting.
Anyway, I did a quick paintover/redline. Hope you don't mind.
edit: And don't forget to flip the image every once in a while
the new thumbs look great, especially the second one i personally don't see any problem with your original composition (but then again i happen to be a noob, with a habit of pushing paintings with mistakes in them ) & Hai 's suggestion of putting the left hand on the hip is a great idea. looking forward to the next update
whisperss - thank you whisp! and yes, that is what i asked, but you didn't have to answer Aude since i already know quite a bit about your style hehe ;p
Danny_K - OMG! Thank you for yet another long reply, and thank you for those links! I read from them today, and i feel like drawing some more landscapes now! Paint some perhaps too.. And i read loomis words, and i think i'll have to reread them a few more times to really be able to apply them
And about the master study, i got really luck because this weeks spartan camp was about a master study, so i got a few more details there ( http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=175548 )
Thank you for replying to my other questions too!!
p sage - Thank you sage!! That site is one of the BEST i have ever seen when it comes to master work, in high quality! I already found it a while ago, but forgot about it!!!! Thank you! And you should UPDATE ALREADY SAGE!!
Parsakoira - Thanks a lot noodle!
Pixeltuner - Thank you very much for visiting me too! I will try to do more from memory, yes
Hai - Thank you for yet another visit Hai! And you are, as always, right! I will try and change the composition a bit, work some more on her pose and i think your idea with the arm on her shoulder is really good! I will try it out..guess i need to take some more photos
Thank you for the paint-over job and how could i ever mind someone who wants to help!?!?
miycko - Thank you dear! Though i didn't work on the chow this time I was in a slump state most of the weekend, so i sort of avoided it..i was afraid..not to mess it up again >_<
Vatsel - YES SIR!! :cA: HERE THEY ARE!! Though it's not the grates update >_< B..but i will do more tomorrow, i am certain of it!
So friday i went to bed at 19.45 (7.45pm) that's like mega early for me!! But i spent some time playing 'Hidden Wolds of Art' and i almost fell asleep!! If you can believe that?! That hardly happens to me when i am actually looking at the screen!
Yesterday i was mostly in a slump, and today..well i don't know what happened really but thanks to Danny , Vatsel and all you wonderful friends, real life, and cA, and so on friends, i was able to get my desire again. Still a bit confused with myself, but i guess i should stop thinking so much ,and start drawing more, huh?
I also decided to try harder, to boost my chances of drawing longer, and to close that tv, mobile-phone, radio, msn, messanger, deviantART, cA sketchbooks, and so on, turn on iTunes, put some music, and DRAW!
I tried some acrylics, but it didn't work out at all!! DANG!! i am sooo ashamed of those acrylics-water colour combined stuff!!! anyway, i went back to my watercolours and tried painting some hills by spring time..
Not so pleased with those, so i really retouched my digital painting, witch i sarted yesterday night..
Payed more attention to the edges, and even though i don't like the composition, i sort of like it.
After that, i started some perspective work once more, and i think tomorrow i'll draw some more still life, and then try applying different perspectives to them.
See you tomorrow
After torturing your eyes with that nasty, ugly, horrible, talentless, and not to mention embarrassing post of mine, i come before you with something that i hope is a little bit more pleasing!
I started this refed landscape, witch i hope to finish by tomorrow evening.
I think i somehow managed to get better brush strokes and effects, thanks to those watercolours i did, but i have nooooo clue at all as to why..
christyyy, you welcome always glad to help thank you too for keeping my butt busy ^^
I like this one http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1260141739
the farther end of the water could be done less saturated would show more distance.
your latest water environment is really nice, I suggest try to get as much detail as you can at first it will teach you to observe better and you will learn a lot, I discovered that the more time you spend on a painting the more things you discover and learn.
Keep pushing aaaaaaand Don't stop
IT"S NOT EMBARRASSING! If it helps, you can look back and say in one day I've done something a gazilllion-bajilliion times better and floof your dignity back into shape. And I'm not so sure that this is such an improvement on the post above. You had a much better control of edges in even the last watercolour. I quite like that one! Anywhooo... nice to see you working on perspective.
Here's a present of half a dozen hugs and some imaginary chocolate. You deserve it.
Wow I can see that Landscape has great potential, It already looks awesome! Cant wait to see it finished!
"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."
Hey Blacky you're doing great, it's good to explore colour early - don't worry all the frustrations are completely normal, I have them every day! It's like a mega hard time-consuming craft which takes years to perfect, just keep going, DO the things you find hardest and you will get the greatest rewards in the end. You'll get there!
Don't ever ever be ashamed You're not allowed
Every mark you make is another step--forward or backward doesn't matter, cuz you're moving. Eventually you'll get where you want to be.
But playing video games and TV won't get you there
I like your last works; it looks like you're getting serious again.
ok, I like the landscapes and your newest one is coming along very well. You're doing great with the studies, I'm glad to see some perspective studies in there
now for the water paintings. I don't know how to exactly explain this, but I think that maybe you stroked too much on one place or your strokes are just a bit careless. Water colours aren't easy and I know that, so I complement you on your patience with it. Also Be careful not to let the the colours mix unwantingly on the paper, let it dry first and don't use too much water at once it can damage the paper and let the painting look scruffy. I'm no expert, so maybe I'm wrong. but I hoped that I helped a bit ^^;
Ok, now don't be ashamed about traditional paintings, to cheer you up i will say that i've also started to paint digitally before i did it in traditional mediums, and my frist acrylic painting also turned out awful. They are trixy, becaus ethey dry so fast so it's difficult to blend them.
Now when it comes to environments, one thing that you missed, planes, environment painting must have planes so that it' more readable even if in nature it doesn't loom like this you have to trick the viewer. That's good thing to keep in mind. Now environments are diffucult, as i tried them myself, theres this perspective thing going on and such, but eventually you will like it.
Nioch nioch! With love, ICE
I like the dedication. More studies and so on. You know the drill!
I like your painting its pretty well done. I like the yellow sunset. For my crit I would have to say to work on your line work a bit. Thats aboot it.
My observational skills may be great but i said nothing about my drawing skills
My Sketchbook - College Years
My Sketchbook - High School
Please comment on my deviant art I need friends T-T
BUY MY SHIRTS PLEASE - They're awesome.
Danny_K - thank you danny you are right, i tend to over do the saturation bit, and about that last envo, i intend to add as much detail as i can to the mountains at least because i always have issues when it comes to land-hills-mountain painting
Pixie Trick - Thank you pixie! Hearing you guys say it's not makes me feel embarrassed of my embarrassment haha. Well perhaps not compared to the post above, but i meant some of my older environments..
Rhoades - Why thank you very much! I will work some more on it this weekend i hope.
AlexTooth - Hey there Alex! and thank you, you are right, i shouldn't be so frustrated....we can't get them all right, and always better than the last, but hey! i should at least keep the level
p sage - Thank you sage! I will certainly get more serious now that the HOLIDAY is here!!!!!!! And i hope i can see some more of your studies too!! It would be a real shame if you'd stop now!!!
GweNdZ - Thank you gwen! And you are right, i stroked to many times, but i couldn't get it right from my first try, so i had to either add more water or paint on top, thus it got all messed up >_<
With practice i guess i'll get it right,no?
Icecold - Hey there ice! Nice seeing you around here again.
And it actually helped a bit when i first read your comment, i don't know why, but it did.
About the planes, basically i should do more perspective studies and take care of those perspective lines, no? I am trying but i am having quite a hard time when it comes to curvy forms!!
Vatsel - Yes, yes, they will come..soon
My57 - Thank you for the visit and the nice words. I am actually trying to improve those lines right now and i hope my old habits will die.
Ok, so i had a few sleepless nights: i think i slept 6h in the past two days!! I usually sleep during the day if i go to late to bed, but this time i couldn't..
So i don't have much of an update, but that first study is the cause for my sleepless night the other day, so yeah
I hope you like it..i feel like i somehow am better with face proportions, and even if i am not, leave me innocently dream haha Getting this done, adding more details than i usually add to those speedies, i feel quite motivated now and i have ideas what to draw again!
HOLIDAY ISS HERE!! SO i will hopefully start those loong updates again, and KEEP them THAT WAY!!
I did this black and white/value galaxy girl, for whom i used a Jean Jacques dubarry sculpture as a reference: http://www.wga.hu/art/c/caffieri/jeanjacq/dubarry.jpg , witch is my first ever drawing after a statue. And i am aware of the fact that i changed the angle of the face, and i did it on purpose because it seemed more fitting for her character..
Oh Cristina you've been making such wonderful progress!!!!!!!!!!!
This page is full with such love and longing to learn, such dedication, and such helpful and supportive words from people who appreciate the inspiration given off from someone willing to do the hard to in order to produce something beautiful in this world.
I'm so pleased your still experimenting with water colours! They are VERY hard to master, but you'll learn a lot about colour along the way.
And just as a tip, I'd suggest not painting in watercolour without and pencil lines underneath. That way you can get all the shapes and such right in pencil, and then you just need to worry about colour when it comes time to paint.
And I thought you'd like to check out this guys work, Justin Gerard , one of my favorite artist and he does alot of his work in watercolour.
I LOVE the last environment, the colours are so awesome and read very well! Well done!
And remember not to get a big head. It maybe hard with people giving such kind words, but where only here for support.
Stay humble, keep your head down and go for the prise my dear friend
