Mind-blowing stuff, as usual. I agree with Alesoun about the kid--don't know whether to help him or run away from him!
Lovely use of value mike! You´ve got a ton of great stuff going on. I particularily fancy some of the more grotesque characterdesigns you´ve got here. I think, on the previous page, with the more lineart-cartoony stuff, you might want to further go inte differentiating your lineweight, and insinuate lines, instead of drawing them. Would leave more for the viewer to fill in and thus make the images more interesting =) Perhaps accentuate the line where there´s tension and weight. Overall super groovy art!
I'm utterly blown away. Your sketches are among the highest quality I've seen on this site! Your fairly loose style is so attractive to me, I could oogle at this for ages. And your strong concepts and sense of composition tie this all together into one hell of a package. Thanks for sharing
I'm also really flattered you chose to print out some of my stuff for your daughters, I really hope they enjoyed those.
Mr Butkus you never fail to impress, its a good thing my jaw cant drop to the floor for real.
I feel like I just watched a movie with all the awesome celebrity portraits and wonderful expressions.
Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!
superb man would you mind visiting my sketchbook and give me a critique? I would love to here what aspects your skilled eye sees that can be improved. And I know there are a LOT hehe.
thanks man, and continue posting
yeah... Mike rules. But a lot more than this shows even (although it's mindblowing as always.)
I had the good luck to be studying at Associates in Art and towards the end, Mike would come down and hang out with us when the teacher wasn't there and show us things. True story... I was in Mike's studio and he knocked over and stepped on one of his beautiful works and it was stuck on his foot. He picked it off and threw it in the corner without thinking! I wanted to dive for the thing and save it! That's someone who's just done too much great work for their own good I think. Also... He works faster than anyone I've ever seen. I would say that some of these black and white things may even be like 15 minute sketches or something wild like that. Blows me away.
I'm so glad you posted this stuff here Mike. I always tell people about you and show them your site and I'm glad now they can see it here. I hope you're doing well and that the L.A students still have access to you and can learn from your talent.
HI guys, i am back and it's been an insane couple of months. I burned through about 17 movie and gaming campaigns not to mention that i am illustrating two books on how to design and illustrate Zombies and Vampires. [The books will be out this NOV and JAN 2010].
I'll post some new stuff a wee-bit later. So i through i would post something different, one of my wife's amazing painting, This self portrait was my fathers day gift and it's my all time favorite!
Anyways it's good to be back and i am looking forward to seeing everyones new work.
