thanks leo. I gotto keep that in mind. espec with the digital stuff
some water color elefants 4 commision
Wooo those are really cool ashess! Nice touch in them, the only thing I could really crit would be the shape design in the last one... the white of the paper leaves these abstract shapes which is really cool and appealing, but you might want to think about how to place them on the elephant to help maximize readability. Other than that... good work , and commission work too! Pretty snazzy.
The first picture is my favorite for its soberness in line and color.
(I especially like the eye of the adult elephant.)
Is it for a story?
Will you post more often if I promise to post more often? 2010 resolution
cdjong: ye that 3rd one is too wobbely alltogether. I just wouldnt flow :/ that's the trouble with watercolor. sometimes it flows. sometimes it won't. sometimes I feel like do not quite control it. but that's part of the fun.
Leo: ye it was a children story about elephants hidingi n the woods. looks like I won't get to finish it though. my own fault; there was some problems on agreeing the terms and I put the work aside for a while. now someone else already offered to finish it. oh well :p busy as is and I already have a job I like.
tobbA: ye I love to let the paint just go. it gives those nice textures. but, again. poor controll :p
made some more. none of them seemed to flow though, so they all suck :p
The second picture has good dynamics in shape (and to some extent in color too),
although I'm not sure what the phant is doing exactly, I guess I'll have to read the story
i love those elephants! your color stuff is all very cool. keep posting
I always try to keep tight control of my watercolors. I don't know if that's the "right" way, but works for me I guess...
However I don't think it would hurt if you tried to get more of a grasp on elephant anatomy, and planned your compositions better. For example in the last batch, the first one seems a little empty and the last one looks squeezed between that tree and the edge of the canvas.
Keep it up!
Leo: it's scratching his tusks against a tree :-)
Tobba: ye, that last elephant was actually supposed to be stuck between the trees and paper like that. but I'm not sure I like it either.
Snow, Noukah: thank you aquarel's allways been my favourite. well, and charcoal. I should try that again sometime. but I'll need to practice again I bet :p
here's some baby rem's!
The compulsive artist sketches in all circumstances
How about making watercolors on those sketches? The second picture, with the round dance of cats, would make a cool tapestry.
I hesitated between tusk scratching and a more improbable story in which the phant wants to break a branch or push the tree down to build a fortress or something equally fantasy-like.
I actually tried doing life aquarels with Rem. but he was particularry active and water color takes a bit longer then just pen; it wasn't very good. maybe I should try again. or maybe try from drawing/photo. it's good idea
You could also paint afterwards - try to remember the lighting when you sketch, or suggest it by slight hatchings. And you could sell some to a motherhood magazine, who knows? The one with both kid and cat sleeping is extra cute.
I like the minimal coloring on the first one. On the second one the invading colors flatten the picture to my eyes, although I sense you wanted to achieve some kind of softening, in which case I would expect more subtle hues on the surfaces. Keep training!
those water colors are awesome!
sometimes i like to do a sketch with india ink and then a wash with water color. i could see that looking really awesome with your style.
oops double post.
ill just repeat that those water colors are awesome!
indeed. should have scanned in 2 parts and pasted
didn't think it was nessicary when scanning, 'cause I didnt use all the paper anyway.
avocado: thanks man!
Leo: well, hope pencils count as practise too :p
didnt get to watercolors again this week.
this one was just set up from reality, finished from heart
sleping baby. at least those keep still!
a few 'impression' moments while Rem was running around and on me
and this is just from memory/ illustrations of the moment
bad, bad girl!
well, I didnt quite stop drawing ofc.. but I've been lacking both in practise as in posting :/ ill try and make up. some storyboard!
was gonna post it after coloring. but who am I kidding?
it ll never get done
aah. sorry 'bout posting without commenting. but the upload process with all the 'verify that this is actually your drawing' buttons takes so long that by the time I was halfway through I had to take Rem on my lap to keep him happy. and that means disconnecting the keyboard so he can bang on it.
anyway, finally had some time for water colors. first one was a warm-up; it didnt quite turn out right but it's ok.
next, this one sort of got away from me. but it might still be fixable. I dunna; thinking on it.
then this one. I'm quite happy with the hippo ^^ the colors espec.
last one, couldnt really find the pastels I wanted to use for this, so, as an experiment I used oil crayons instead. I'm not sure if it worked ok here, but it was a nice experiment.

hey tobba; thanks. I see you've stayed at it at least!
I'm a little cautious on sketching before I paint; it might take away some of the freedom in this stuff. or do you mean just sketchup on a different piece of paper, maybe even paint sketch, and then start over?
that might be a good idea. I'll try it.
well, gonna try and post at least once a week. at least that'll mean it wont just be sketchy stuff.. I hope.
I did continue my baby journal. most drawings arent' really worth it though. these 2 were ok though.
