"transvestite in heat' Oil on Canvas, 26"x30"
This piece was inspired by Chauncey L. Covington's lust for vulgarity in a pristine art world as the estatic state of transexual fashion implodes on the foundation of conventional aesthetic. To push the boundaries of anti-beauty and still, quintessentially maintain beauty is the motivation of this piece in which confident line quality and impasto brush strokes scourge the canvas for the sake of art redemption. The experiemtation of near complementary colors of warm highlights against cool purples illustrate sharpness and high contrast in a sort of deviation from modern standards. In addition to the usage of black which gives the piece a don't-do-that revolt of somber splendor, Chauncey's subject matter of a tranvesite in a natural "classical" setting is a testiment of higher ground unchallenged by his earlier works. Influenced by Jean Michel Basquait and black Impressionist William H. Johnson, C. L. Covington is the anti-filter of the times.
