This is a tutorial that will show every single step in adding texture in Painter 10(although it works with many versions).
This Process specifically uses the method of using gel layer.
The advantage of using the Gel layer is that you don't do anything permanent to the piece when experimenting.
I really hope people get something from this
Example of layout:
Step 1: Create an image you wish to add texture to.
Step 2: Add a New layer and set the method to GEL
Step 3: Select WHITE
Step 4: Fill(ctrl+F) GEL Layer with WHITE, so it has a surface to alter.
Step 5: Example of how Layers will look.
Step 6: Select the BRUSH from the PHOTO list called ADD GRAIN.
Step 7: Go to the PAPER MENU(launched from WINDOW list).
Step 8: Select PAPER you wish to use.
Step 9: Example of the Brush options. The Strength will alter how fast the grain is added. Grain will tell the brush how much the paper should effect the canvas.
Step 10: "Paint" using the ADD GRAIN BRUSH over the GEL LAYER
Step 11: If needed Select the brush from the DISTORTION list called BULGEto help "wrap" texture around 3d form.
Step 12: Here is the result of Bulging the texture around the 3d form.
Step 12: I'm adding a second paper to give the piece more texture. As you can see the grain range from white to pure black, no matter what your piece is limited to.
Step 13: To get rid of the black, i added a new layer with the method set to MAGIC COMBINE.
Step 14: I've filled in the layer with a darkest value i want within the piece. which was a dark grey.
Step 16: Image shows result of Magic Combine.
Step 16: After working a little more, shazzam!
