The Orphan Works Opposition Headquarters has suggested we all bombard our senators and congressman with postcards.
I'm taking it upon myself to throw a Orphaned Works Opposition Party to rally support from area artists that I know. I'm going to buy a stack of postcards, get them all labeled with the correct addresses, and invite people over for a nice big party to decorate the fronts of them in whatever way they deem appropriate to oppose the bill. Booze, art, and activism. If I can get it organized fast enough I will try to have the party hosted some place public and try to get media attention.
I suggest each and every one of us who is worried about this bill host a similar party. Make it easy (and fun) for friends and other concerned members of your arts community to get involved and cast a voice against this bill, and hopefully a flood of unique pieces of art in our local representative's office will make a memorable impact.
