More speedies. Gotta practice more and more!!
You say you want to know how much you suck?
What I see is a person driven and with his heart set on advancing his art skills. I see development and great skills for character design as well.
You don't suck - you're doing very good things already. Keep it up!
You need to build more confidence and simplify your strokes. If you can do it with 1 or 2 strokes, why use 20. This applies both for your color ones and your lineart.
keep it up, I'll be dropping by and bitching about your work
Eva K - Thanks for the kind words. Hope to get better. Itīs just never enough....
sodAp - Iīll give this a try. I saw a sketchbook here a time ago where the artist was counting his brushstrokes, and he had a limit... Like 30 or something... Crazy stuff.... I better give it a try...
But before this, some landscapes and a Hellboy:
Here is something really cool.... NOT!!
Damn... What a lame joke....
No reference. Too lazy to find a bike on the net now. But later on i hope i will.
you don't suck at all.
I wish I am brave with the color combos myself. Some are just great to look at esp the first batch of sketches.
Nice idea about the brushcount, I think I'll use that myself...maybe baby steps to just 50 for starters..hehe
Hehehe.... Thanks Meduza! Iīm still afraid of the brushcount, but iīm trying to apply bigger brushstokes at the beginning of a painting.
Should i change the title of my Sketchbook? Not because i donīt suck as people are coming by to say, but something that forces people to show me my weak spots... What ya say? Hehe...
Here is another enviro. Iīll post a wip image too, since i kinda like it more than the more finished one...
you've got talent man I can tell you that. now you need what we all need - practice godspeed buddy
my only advice would be to use more refs
Good point Carlos . In that I case I suck too.. big time.. hehe
I agree with the others - you show a lot of skill and a lot of drive. The only thing that is on my "Critique"-List is, that you really seem to get exhausted by making such cool compositions as the landscapes above - their bluriness confuses me a little bit, I don't know, whether you regard these pieces as almost finished or "just getting started" ... i personally think, you're just getting started, but it would be nice, if you would show us landscapes or characters which are more defined.
But back to the main part of my post - you don't suck at all, just keep on working and become better than any other one in this forum ;-).
Oh yeah! Doesnīt it feel good when people comment? Hehehe....
realextension - Thanks, man. And thatīs for sure, i do need more practice. But i guess iīm taking care of it right now, sort of... =D My actual problem about the use of references is a silly one, but i must admit itīs the truth. One of the computers in my house in connected to the internet, but not mine. We used to have a network that shared the connection, but we had a problem with it and we couldenīt solve it yet.... It would be easier to go to google and search for the references needed instead of doing it on another computer, transfering things into the pen drive, going to my computer and work..... Lame, insīt it? Once i have my connection up and running iīll post like a bastard, hehehe...
JonathanS - LOL! Donīt we all? Hehehe...
Alabaster - That is true... Iīm only working 20 or 30 minutes on these pieces. Someday iīll have to go all the way and refine the job to the end, but for the moment iīm working more on the bigger shapes and their relationship to each other. I also donīt know if they are "almost finished" or "just getting started" as you stated, but i do know they are incomplete.... Iīm glad you gave me something to think about, man!
Well, here goes some new ones:
Nice work Carlos, I'm not stalking you don't worry . It's great that you have so much drive and passion for your art. My only piece of advice would be to try and do a few sketches from life (pets, friends, objects etc) and try and get them as accurate as possible, spend as much time as you want over them, and really study em as closely as you can. I like your stuff, but if you can tighten up some of the forms and detail you'll be onto a winner. good luck mate
Watch your anatomy. Also, most of your paintings seem blurry - try using a hard brush for a while to change it up and get yourself out of your comfort zone. Maybe you'll like it.
cant wait man. I'll be watching.
Thanks Jacky-Boy - Life drawing is something i usually do, even tough iīm not doing it for the moment.... You can be sure iīll post some life drawing soon!
thespianmonsalvo - Thanks for the tip. Iīll do that!
realextension - =D
Ok, if we narrow down the last tips we have this:
Simpler and few brushstrokes
Finish and polish some paintings
anatomy and less "blurriness"
Weee.... Gonna work on these, fellas! Thanks to everybody!!
Now here we have a few studies from a Loomis book, and some speed paintings from photos:
Your work doesn't suck at all!
At least not compared to mine,
Only thing I notice in your work is that most of them seem yet still blurry.
Anyways, keep it up!
last 2 paintings look good man. if you'd insist a bit more I'm sure your paintings would look amazing. what's the rush bro?
Hey dude, you know those sketches in post #46 with the white highlights?
Those are really really good. I'd love to see a few more of those if you get the chance. Maybe take one of the characters in your paintings and do a character model sheet? They look great!
Vimerge - Thanks man. You should known i have twice your age, so iīd say you are doing pretty well! Way better then me, i guess...
realextension - what's the rush? Good point.... I didnīt known if i was rushing or what... In my head i should try a bunch of speedies of different people and things. Now that you guys are saying that i should start to finalize the painting, i guess itīs time to give it a try again....
JonathanS - I probably will make some other cartoons guys like that. I love to do those. And itīs a good mental break on all the energy iīm puting into something more realist.
I started to think about this blurry stuff everybody is talkin about. So i satrted to do some tests. I realized you guys were tottaly right when i used the "sharpen more" filter in the bodybuilder image. The result was awfull, but when i hit Ctrl+Z, the image i tought was fine was also awfull....
Time to find some ways to have some hard edges without losing the softs one i also need.... Here goes some tests:
looking good dude. just a quick advice: work the silhouette at about 25% then add the details and blending at 100%. the secret is to also increase the size of your ref to 400% when you're at 100%, u know? it will be a bit "low quality" but you'll see better how the surfaces connect. also, wouldn't heart to look for some bigger images keep em coming bro
I really like your style, but I do think you'd benefit from experimenting with different levels of detail.
I'd love to see some more sketches... These are fantastic. http://www.conceptart.org/forums/att...1&d=1222184099
mr. m - I will mate!
realextension - Gonna give this a try. Thanks!!
HAJiME - Sketches like those will come. I just donīt know how soon, since iīm loaded with stuff to do... Aboute the details, iīm starting to try to add more to see where it goes.
Thanks all you guys for the help and replies!
Well. It just didnīt feel good to pass by this day without a post. And it sure felt good to change software to a more natural one! Artrage is cool as hell!
I would like to thank again everybody that is giving me those advices. Normally i would stop my painting at the stage in the first figure and call it a speed paint. Now i went to the second stage and donīt know what to call it, hehehe....
