Hi everyone, I thought some of you might enjoy these images.
These three images show the process I demonstrated during a 6 day 2007 workshop at The Grand Central Academy of Art in New York.
The painting was oil on linen—18” x 24”
It involved three major components:
1. The Preparatory Drawing
2. The Poster/Value Study
3. Form Painting
The Preparatory Drawing involved finding height and width relationships using comparative measuring, blocking-in shapes/forms (using straight lines for simplification and ease of comparison), checking structural relationships and locating the forms through minimal shading.
The Poster/Value Study was a small monochromatic study to better understand the larger value relationships.
The Form Painting Stage involved blocking in small planes by placing small shapes of color-evaluating the color in terms of hue, value and chroma.
