Sweet! I like the new stuff! I especially like the musketeer scarf lady!
Granny: yooOOOOOOOOOOOOOO so glad u came back dood and striking with a vengeance, I'm diggin it and it's starting to make ma' brain tick again!!
greyskill: shoopah shangs mang!!
shambok: no probs, keep up the great linework!
Day 16 some mindless shenanigans...
haha Granny u and me must be on the same page cuz I've been totally vibe'ng Ed Sharpe and the 0 mag's, i heard the 40days song on a show somewhere and my ears were hit with the goodness! I'm gonna definitely have to catch one of their live shows...
Day 17 some unfinished studies and trying to approach in different ways...
Wow, just wow, I really like your style, awesome work!
The 6th image down in post #803 (lush green forest scene) really grabs me. Good work, snootchy!
gogojojo: thanks! yea i was rev'd in the beginning that left side came out well but then i just lost steam and gave up hehe, next time!
shambok: thanks dood, roxurs!
ArghosRo: great to hear thanks, i still think my ideas are a bit per ill conceived and childish, hee hee!
maeshanne: hey thanks, long time man! yea took a looooong hiatus from art, but back with fresh eyes!
r-t-a: thanks, actually that was a demo i was following along with, forget who the artist was but was one of the gnomon demo's
Lang Oulk: super duper thanks!!
Day ..., uh i forget, missed one but think it should be 19. Some speedpaints got outta work late plus was sick of doing ref after just one day haha, i know i'm a lazy son of a b!*ch!
Nice technique, I like the way you build up the pieces. Only checked out the last 5 pages or so, will have to revisit when I get chance. Good stuff.
Cloud painting is lovely. More of that if you have the time, please.
r-t-a: thanks dood, yea i'm not sure when i'll go back to doing ref's or academia studies but will work on!
thegrayslayer: thanks man! yea i wouldn't bother with the pages earlier, but not like any of these last few pages were anything special. i dig ur username, hardest tone for me to capture!
Granny: yoooo hombre, waddup! werd we'll have to do a chat paint session soon, u with ur dragonfist style and me with walid's big balls...uh i mean paint...have a kickarse wickend
Day 20, yea feeling a little woozy, don't drink and get behind the wacom stylus...
tha last green env. how did u make the paint look so chunky and juicy?
Snootchy ... your work is really inspiring. Really like your varied use of colour, you just know what works where. Also like to thank you for the constant visits ... its really appreciated.
Mmmm, that last environment is just, simply...mmmm , very inspiring stuff, can't wait to see more
Joce: thanks! i included a mini tut. of the brushes i used to get some of the heavy globbed paint feel, hope that helps!
shambok: thanks really cool to hear that, although i think i'm just sketching outta my arse, hehe!
MetalFingers: thanks and haha that's the coolest emoticon, props!!
Lang Oulk: thanks, funny what a bit of drinking and sketching at 3am can do (not that I'm condoning any of that kind of conduct, hee hee)
Day 21: so it was a recovering day and figured i'd change it up a bit. haven't done a tutorial in a while (and really helps me, more so than anyone else to reinforce what i'm doing, yea imma selfish like that muhahaha) anyhoo, Joce asked about the thick paint look, I attached the pics of brushes i use and examples of some of the effects the palette knives can be used to push paint, blend, create hard edges/texture and so on. Oh also a note on the palette knife, to use it just select the smudge tool and click off finger painting.
I missed doing traditional art but I'm a digital junky so I started a grisaille paint approach to a photo ref sketch. I also included a stained canvas u could use as a template to start one if u want to. if the res is too small u can make ur own just use a color, (I prefer to use a color close to that of burnt umber); make some strokes use the palette knife to push and swish the paint around and then google for a high res image of a canvas and just overlay or use one of the layer blending modes so that the canvas texture comes through and viola u have a nice wash to start ur sketch on whether it's alla prima or grisaille, this helps to kind of get a more traditional approach to a digital medium.
... oh. my. god. YOU CRAZY BITCH IT"S ABOUT TIME YOU GOT BACK. *RANTRANTRANT*
DUDE. SO GOOD TO SEE YOU BACK MAN. YOU'RE PIECES GOT NEW LIFE TO THEM. LOVE THEM ALL. Don't ever let that itch die man, no matter what.
Keep em coming snootch. even if you gotta take breaks in between. : )
Hala: yooooooo wasappi homey! long freakin time, and thanks for getting on my arse to kick it in gear, u the best!! hope all is good in ur hood!
Day 22, some old some new, ooh and actually might partake in the upcoming chow, i started it thinking i only had 2hrs but saw that the deadline is next sunday so woopi-dee-doo get to do some more thumbs!! last sketch is the wip or one of them for now for the upcoming chow
dude. I"m so digging those last two. Good luck with CHOW if you do it!!!!
Shambok: thanks, yea it really helps me to work like i was working traditionally in a digital medium sometimes!
hala: thanks, haha i like how you added that last part if you finish, that was something our team always struggled with and i guess a lot of people for that matter!
Day 23 some more ideas for this weeks chow, still trying to think of a better comp, we'll see...
Shambok: thanks mate! actually it's only one texture brush i made out of rock structure and nothing really fancy just a few setting adjustments
Day 24 decided on a composition for this weeks chow
things i need to nail down in order to call it finito:
1. anatomy/pose (the legs are giving me massive trouble so will have to find some ref to fix the pose as well as the arms)
2. design of the outfit (thinking since everyone is going with the kimono, i'm gonna go with the lost school girl and kimono up top, thinking going with a transparent type skirt to play off the transparent theme)
3. tighten up the enviro (went this route so wouldn't be bogged down with rendering a lot of different elements in the backdrop, although having a frozen head in that ice structure is gonna be a challenge but well worth it =D)
4. lastly maybe some special effects like her leeching/absorbing the soul outta the frozen corpse
dude, you're really ballin on this last one. I really wish i could provide helpful crit but I"m just gonna asspat you on this one cuz each time you do it it gets better and better---I can't wait to see the finished product! : D
Hi Snootchy! Chow is looking good.
hala: keke shanks! i can't wait either for finish, brings back the team chow days haha!!
NicG: thanks dood, will keep on trucking!
Day 25 oy wicked tired today worked 11hrs (tip: don't ever work for a job that requires you to do a quota rather than hours, with hours u can take it easy at some points of the day, keke) and can't fall asleep so decided to work on this a bit more, still having issues with the extremities, not really sure what they doing yet, but definitely gonna need to look for some ref, cuz the body looks a bit wonky, to be continued...
