Happy New Year Snootchy! Things have changed in my absence, you're still a super improvement workhorse but this...this is new! !!!!!!!! So much good work, especially the tutorials.
This piece reminds me of a collision between 70's anime and late 90's video games. Style potential there mixing slick toony figures and edgy textured 3D environments.
So, are you getting a paycheck for producing illustrations like this one? And if not... then why not? You're there my man!

i´d suggest getting rid of unnecessary detail and texture, that shows up from your brush strokes.
think about the brush strokes and maybe spend a few minutes cleaning up surfaces some more.
might be because i really prefer the super clean look. but it´s always good to not have too much detail in places you don´t want focus. :]

some random speedpaints done and one that i pulled from my livestream and added a track by arcade fire, same process as before taking old paintings and using as a base to mash up
the last few were roughs for the latest team chow, not sure what direction our team is heading in but still thumbing along!
You have a great understanding of spaces and how objects fit into them, which is a really great talent. In your last post I particularly enjoy the image of the orange-brown towers in front of a pale blue sky. It's a really intriguing location, and great loose like that but also well worth working more on.
A lot more characters than usual and they're lookin pretty sick too! You should keep working on the values and lighting because they're a bit unclear here and there. For example, the chick you've got with the curly hair has light coming from behind her and yet she has no rim lighting at all, and you've got light on her chest. Just little things like that will help you to sell the mood. Keep it up man

sorry again for lack of updates, been still getting negative feedback at work and retraining is not going so well =( i guess i'll just keep working there till they say i can't work there no more haha!
finally got to sketch a bit today, some old and some new rough sketches, took one of old sketches roughly when i first started and just drew on top to see the difference till now based off of braintree's comment, bit stylised but like the sketch
also last 2 were ref'd tried to do these ref's as fast as i could so to only pick what was important to capture the image, almost like doing gesture sketches kind of...

dig the latest stuff man. you're really moving upwards man. you're really shaping up your ability to develop characters, i'm lovin the creative buzz its giving me...
however, when I glance back over your characters I feel as though something is just missing. i feel as though they lack distinction, which is interesting because there very clearly is physical distinctions between the characters. as i think about it more i feel like it might have something to do with your colour palette. maybe you mix too many colours or something because the colours on some of the characters have a muddiness to them, which sometimes work (like the more robotic forms...gives it a nice rusty feel). you seem to end up with a muddy palette a bit too often on your characters (i didn't notice this in enviro pieces). myabe you could just add some more contrasting colours in key spots throughout the composition.
also, how do you approach the construction of your characters? do you start with forms or do you have more of a "flatter" (if that makes any sense) approach, like sticking purely with line work and then adding form with colour? just curious.
all in all, like i mentioned before, you are moving onwards and upwards. there are no boundaries to our potential!!! keep rocking man!

Big thanks for pointing that out on the colors, yea i struggle still with colors especially on characters cause in an enviro you can get away with using a range of colors since there's so much bounce colors off one another but on character sketch it's prolly better to decide on a color scheme to keep the colors more pure.
As for starting off I usually don't have a set way of working if i feel line isn't working then i switch over to blocking out big shapes, but the initial thought for me at least is to get the big shapes as interesting as possible then work inwards if that makes any sense.

lol, but these last few paints are REALLY epic man, love the colours of the first one, and those clouds in the second are just wonderful!
Love the third as well... but I think the building to the left is a bit distracting. Also I think it would add a real nice sense of scale if the building they were fighting on was the tallest around... I really do love this image though, so cool!
You do atmospheric perspective and color coordination so well, I love your painterly style quite much.

i think we paint in a pretty similar way, we both are very silhouette minded.
maybe some slightly less sharp edges on some places with less focus, on the figures?
also, always keep construction in mind when painting. construction/drawing > values > color
Great variety. You have a very clever speed painting technique, and you don't seem to repeat much your process, that's very good. Some of the brushwork that you manage to get is very cool. Thanks for showing the process for some.

Makes perfect sense. I work very much the same way myself, however I tend to construct with line more so than with block in big shapes. That second one you have in your last post is strongest piece I'd say. It's also the perfect underdrawing. Don't forget about that one. That is one you'd want to come back to at some point.

sorry folks been crazy again at work, can't believe today it took 3hrs to drive 45miles to work today, snow is nice to look at but not fun to drive in, oy vey =(
not much in updates just a bunch of roughs, kind of discovering a new way to sketch and color. made a swatch of 8 colors, warm&cool of red yellow blue and black and white. start usually with a black and white sketch and will use a big soft brush, choose a color and add it like a glaze, if i want to get like a purplish color like that in the first sketch I'll just mix the red and blue (kind of like traditional approach). the reason for doing this is to keep the colors as pure as possible (not losing intensity) by choosing from the 8 colors in the swatch and mixing as needed.
