From what I've noticed, from websites and a couple college tours is that the fine arts department seems to consist of people who don't want to draw. There's a LOT of abstract, loose, paint-splashy stuff from what I've gleaned.
My theory is that all the people who really like objective art and precision decided to pursue illustration, perhaps even interior, industrial, and fasion design. (After all, most of those require some form of precision). Then, all the remaining people who like the play of color but not necessarily "drawing" go towards studio arts.
Is this a sound general assumption to make?
