the other day, i doodled this little thumb in my sketchbook for no apparent reason.
and then i came back to it today--for no apparent reason. i have no idea what the hell i was thinking. just maybe thinking that a two-headed panda might look cool or something.
S.M Thanks, I've been over to your SB too, but haven't had time to leave a comment or anything. very, very good stuff! i can dig it. the environments are rocking!
MJAlcazar Thanks! I'm hoping to do some kind of oil tutorial one of these days, but it's hard to organize it and take photos mid-stream. i'll get around to it though... keep up the stuff you're doing in your thread. i think you're making some good progress!
paperx Thanks! I'll try.
VictorB Thanks, it feels good to do some tonal stuff after all the line and ballpoint.
jedininjaman thanks, man. shapes is where it's at. learning to think like that opened my eyes a few years ago.
Staticpen thanks, man. i wish i had my head screwed on straight so i could've done a full figure, but the paper was kinda too small. everything is "egg effect." as my teacher said tonight--understate it or overstate it, but don't fucking copy it.
the velatura thing can be super powerful. there are all kinds of variations this way and that from it, but the gist of it remains the same. when i do the next painting, i'll try to take more pictures and explain a few more things.
P.S. i'm also paying homage to Chromosome's wicked awesome pen technique here. i've picked up on a few really awesome pen things from looking at his SB. ...slowly trying to incorporate a few of them into my style. if you haven't seen his penwork, you're really missing out.
