"As you may have noticed, Im not all here my self..."
Give me some love! JARheads SKETCHBOOK of DOOM!
Woo-awesome character designs and linework. Some great stuff here.
I feel like there is something a little washed out about your values though. I think you could really push the extremes a little more value-wise.
The girl in the last post, with the glowing butterflies, should be lit up a little more yellowish orange in accordance with the color of the light. Also, her face should have less shadows in general since the light source appears to be directly in front of her face.
Keep it up!
Hey man. You asked for some harsh crit. I dont have any harsh crit, but I have a mild one. I think your graphite rendering style can be really busy and sometimes jarring. It may be better to focus detail in one or two focal areas and imply the rest rather than adding homogeneous detail information throughout the piece. If you look at John Singer Sargent, his work does this really well using detail only when necessary. Todd Harris does an awesome job with this too. Sometimes it is a virtue to leave areas loose.

was great meeting you at reverie. you should post your portfolio from reverie on here somewhere. great stuff. i'm sure everyone would find it most inspiring.
thanks for the crit at reverie as well. very helpful.
take it easy man. keep the lead burning!
Nice work, man! You digital stuff's improving pretty quickly, but I gotta say, it doesn't hold a candle to your pencil work. Really, really like those. With the digital portraits, I like the life you're putting in them with the color, but they're still looking a bit plasticky. Try to reign in the shine a little bit (especially on the chins), and start bringing some texture in. Can't wait to see where this stuff goes.
Great work. Some inspiring stuff here, particularly your traditional art. Those pencil pieces are amazing!
dude, you gotta post some of that work from dallas. That stuff shows major improvement from your work here. Now, go do that, and then make more sweet new art and then post it here too. Okay, got all that? Good.
Krato- yeah your right on that. usually i sketch with and H or 2H so gennerally i have a limited value. I'll try and make sure i thow down sm'more darker values
Here's painting i just finished up for a client. i still think it coulda used a Space alien ship crashed into the scene or maybye a tower of allmighty doom somewhere. but part of the project constraints was for the open scenery. looking at it now i wish i had time to go on and add a bunch of flora, but this got approved so oh well!
I was going to goto bed, but decided to look at one more sketchbook. Wow. I'm glad If-did. You're control of volume and form make me embarrassed to post, but inspire me to do better. Great technique; I love the pencils and the smoke coming from the guys (gloves ?) in the digital above.
YEHA 2:30 in the morning post! I'm currently working on a recreation of the Super Metroid title screen envoirment. This is one of my current variations. still all unpolished but it's just a quick mood pass to start. it'll be put in the unreal engine in a couple weeks. i'll post the final results when i get there of course!
TheHut- Thank you! Just the boost I needed early this morning
I think these character designs are just awesome.
Hello Strifen; you have an awesome sketchbook here! Your drawing style is sooo cool: cartoonish and creative!! I also like your colour harmony. Keep posting more!
you have some great drawings. I like you're tonal style, and the gestures and looseness of your characters look really good. I want to see more.
Fun! I like your colors. I wish I could make the sound the baby metroid makes.
For Science- Sketchbook!
really love your sketching dude, good job with the DSG 1553 design i like the colours infused on that one. I see you have a flavour for graphic novel type work i was wondering if u could give me a few tips as im doing a project on graphic novels at the moment.
