HAHAHA post 207 is one of your best lately! Let's see more of that (but with more detail)! I think about shit like that too man. You're actually doing a pro-active thing by drawing that because it alleviates any kind of repression, which is bad. On the other hand, beware of too much indulgence in the sexual realm, that can lead to compulsiveness. I'd draw more explicit stuff myself but my knowledge of human anatomy, proportion and perspective is not as great as yours...yet. I know that I will be doing porno art some day. I can't wait!

I really like the rendering you've got going on that horned nude woman. That's incredible. You need to be showing more of that man. Let's see the weirdness... completed!

Anyways dude. Good to see you posting more shit. Hope to see more soon!

woh big updates, man post 207 had me in tears, u've got some ideas in that head of urs that would make the porn industry look like child's play! the rapid shooter angel in that post was my fav

ur hatch isn't neat and i really like that versus some other hatch styles i've seen, it's almost like a combo of hatching and squirkling, really cool though; i especially like it on the human forms because it gives the form some nice subtle value changes. I'm really digging the hatching on that horned lady as well

oh man i can't believe how long it's been since i posted... it gave me a while to clear my head of this website's influence and see what i make when i'm more drawing just for myself and not really looking up to people so much. it doesn't look much different than my studies, i tended to just draw the people and things around me, but i felt a lot more of my personality go into these recent pages than i usually do. i was with friends when i drew most of these pages, which i found made drawing way more pleasant and it relaxed me. there are some still life thumbnails for paintings thrown in too. i don't know what it is but i feel like i made a huge improvement since the last post, maybe not technically but i have a much different mentality when i draw now, i feel less anxious or pressured i guess. i can just draw whatever i want, maybe poorly, but i don't feel so lost and clueless looking at a blank page, trying to think endlessly about how to do it perfectly, i kindof just go in thinking it will be alright. and i think that's a really good change.

the next good change hopefully will be i actually finish pieces of art instead of doodling all the time... or at least rendering more things in my sb...

that's great approach grenappels, and i think you always had the technical side of drawing but great to see that other side of you approaching drawing! I've always thought you had a nice loose style of sketching and i still see that in ur latest post, which i think is great because u can get so much more done. I think that's the misconception or notion a lot of people have when it comes to sketching, trying to create a perfect drawing, but we all know and it shows when something is overworked or too tight and ur sketches i feel are the exact opposite and opens the floor for good ideas!

kingkostas--thanks, np and i'm trying really hard with the anatomy. to be honest on most drawings i give into the impulse to just ignore anatomy and proportion entirely, resulting in a bunch of silly doodles and nothing badass lol

pijus- thanks, i'm gonna try to render a lot more now that im getting back into painting and i have to do it for class anyway!

snootchy- thanks, i can always count on you for encouragement, but i still think the technical side of my drawing has a waaaays to go lol. and yeah, drawing quickly and crappily has it's benefits hahaha

anyway i picked up the wacom again and did a study based on an arm in a drawing of mine that my friend pointed out to me was fucked up, then i made it a 3 hour polished turn for you guys i tried so hard to blend everything out but i think my understanding of values is still skewed so bleh. like they aren't that correct i just can't tell what to fix.

/edit not polished turn POLISHED TURD UGH I HATE THIS PIECE

thanks bleu, i'm about to leave a note in your sb too . the values do seem fine, but it's just not that pleasing to the eye and i;ve been trying to figure out why... then i kindof gave up trying to figure it out and just dove into a fantasy piece (its supposed to be a pheonix but it lacks mighty proportions...). i think my wacom rendering has come a long way, i'm really proud of how this one is going so far. i used this for a ref http://z.about.com/d/huntsville/1/5/U/d/1/birdEagle.jpg

/update, ok i'm done working on it for today, i just had a lot of fun experimenting with textures and designs and lighting so i spent all day on it (and deleted a lot of results lol) and now i'm beat

/edit more progress, but i might not use any of it. this might be another one of the things i try on this guy and spend 3 hours on and then just dismiss grr. cant decide which eyes to use either.

oh, and DanielC, if you ever read this, i'm so terribly indebted to you for teaching me how to render. i feel like i learned most of what i know about it from lurking your sketchbook and staring at each of your paintings. you are so talented, i want to see you go pro so badly. just know you are one of my favorite art teachers...
    and you're my age...

Looks good so far, you should definitely finish. I like the lava-like patterns in the wings, perhaps try suggesting more feathers though. Also I'm mostly partial to the one with blue eyes myself because they are a very striking contrast against the firey colours. Personally, I always imagined phoenixes with longer tails, you should try that and see how it looks

woh nice updates Gren! I really like how the bird piece is coming out; only crit here is to work on the piece as a whole; because once u get a closer finish on one section like the birds face, the rest becomes difficult to follow up or unify as a whole piece

i agree i think your digital stuff has progressed quite a bit, i think you should definitely just experiment with all the little tools that ps has to offer happy accidents is a great thing

"the rest becomes difficult to follow up or unify as a whole piece"

wow you're so right i'm like dreading trying to finish it... but i'll force myself to at some point soon, i have a good motivation to in my head, i just have schoolwork to get done. and i'm experimenting using more than just the round hard edge brush now hahaha that's a step right? anyway here are some 30 second posemaniacs.com gestures (which i did a little filter stuff on to make a little less boring) and a sketch of a guy i tried to turn into a painting but failed at. i'll try again and come back with it tho

definitely big step and shows when u use diff brushes; it adds variety and makes it more visualyl stimulating; real proud of the steps ur making!!

I like the posemaniac's studies, i think u should take a step further and maybe do really loose rendering of form on top of each one, like block in mid grey value then knock darks and lights (limit the time since they are small thumbs) with very basic shapes so that you can identify values quickly and also help to loosen brushstrokes for an impressionistic application

How come parts of that eagle are pixellated? Anyway it's coming out very vivid and crisp//sharp! Love the high contrast. I like the clothing in those last few updates, nice folds. Cool value work, it's a good idea to thumbnail it for study, I'll try that.

okok. ive been busy and away from my computer but my sketchbook has followed me everywhere, so i have a lot of pencils. so many that i only scanned a small sample of them cause i just dont have the time, it would take hours. that and they are mostly quick, not polished, it would take longer to scan some pages than it took to draw them :o. anyway, eon, the areas are pixelated cause i start it at one res then i blow it up 2x to do details and it kinda lets me knwo which parts i still need to polish. i really dont want to do wacom painting anymore just because i loathe sitting in my computer chair, i feel like the life is being sucked out of me and i usually get distracted with videogames porn etc. so expect more pencils if i ever get the time to scan everything

some ramblings while i wait for the stupid uploader to work.... i've been realizing how extremely difficult it is to make anything beautiful. and it's easy to trick yourself into thinking you've accomplished it, especially those few times you get lucky, but... god it's impossible. i hope i dont think its so hard in a few years. i just wonder when i'll feel like i'm in control when i go to draw something, when i don't have to worry about fucking up. i feel like i'm walking on ice and my aim is to gracefully stroll to the other side of a pond, but i can't even be bothered trying to look graceful cause im busy concentrating on not falling on my ass.

hey Gren, great updates! Really like the enviro thumbs, show's nice development in thinking about scale, composition, texture, perspective; be nice to see u go back into one of those and work on a bigger study.

Also the contour lines on the last sketch page looks really smoove, great job!!

I hear ya on that digital stuff, after stepping away from it now I find it really hard to just sit for couple hours a try to complete something to a near finish or even set composition digitally; glad ur sticking to the traditional stuff, keep at it

thanks snootchy. yeh computer chairs seem evil once you get away from them for a while hahaha. i've been doing some oil painting recently, its really a pain in the ass to get set up but i found an artist (elizabeth peyton http://blog.theartcollectors.com/wp-...h-peyton-1.jpg) i like whose style i think is awesome and i want to learn it. uses a lot of really watery medium i think. i already tried one and i really liked the results.

anyway more penilz. i find myself getting out of the house to draw people at the local food court a lot recently, its more because i dislike staying in my house than a newfound dedication but it's good daily practice. i think i really need to develop an eye for symmetry, thats probably the most important next obstacle for me to face. my drawings are just all fucking lopsided it feels like. thank god i can finally draw out of my head sort of. one step at a time...

hey great update gren, can't wait to see some of ur oil painting!

as for symmetry, i can see it in some of the portraits how it appears a little wonky; it's always good idea to work on one eye and then work on the other right after rather than coming back to it, also even though there quick sketches i think it helps to be conscious of overall proportions which will greatly help with the overall symmetry

    great sketches keep working hard!!
