One likes guns whilst the other likes swords

Two drawings I'm bouncing back and forth on. The first is one I'm doing primarily for myself and the other is for something on another site.

And a few process shots of the first one.

the drawings are okay, but they look rather "generic". they don't look very different from every other drawing of this type of thing. if i were you, i would browse the internet for inspiration. look at photos of actual soldiers, etc.

I like the first one alot, his feet seem a tad bit small, but that could just be me complaining. The person with the swords seems kind of like the normal present day samurai/ninja naruto kind of thing. Unless you were going for that, i would give him something to distinguish him from all those other styles.

    Thanks AntiMatty and WillN,

I've been busy the past week or so and haven't had much time to work on these. But I do agree they are a bit generic. I have tried to push the soldier a bit more from my original sketch to make him look completely generic.

The other one is for an avatar contest thingy for someplace else. The topic creator for that wanted an avatar for himself in the form of a ninja/samurai naruto style.

Again thanks for your crits...I'll keep trying to push myself conceptually and rendering...ly.....

Teeny Tiny update on the ninja one:

Well in that case, you did a good job evoking a sense of Naruto-esque-ism-ish-ness.
I would love to see the object on the Hilt on one of the blades to be colored black, just to make that nod to a yin-yang symbol come full circle
    (ba-dum *ching*)
In fact, I'd really just like colors in general. An adventurous palette might go a long way to getting rid of your soldier's generic-ness.

Thanks for the suggestions Zilant, good idea with the yin yang idea.

    Hehe...esque-ism-ish-ness...i like that.

Another update...and this time using painter...pretty much my first real serious attempt at painter that isn't a doodle or daddle or diddle...i don't even think those mean anything.

    'Nother Update....

Kind of stumped with the fire and ground and possibly overall lighting of the figure...but kind of happy with the color of the figure....

I like the progression of this character development. Great touch with the hairdo. Looks Awesome!

I couldn't stop my pen from bleeding, so all I left were its trail to find.
