My favorite illustration is the Pirate ship for Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. They're all hanging on the side about to board a ship, I have it in my mess somewhere, I'll scan and post if I find it.

To be nobody-but-yourself -- in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else -- means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting.

I Wish I could find a copy of Treasure Island. I saw a children book version and the prints were so terrible...

    Gracious thanks for those Joshua,

The Pyle school is one of the best things that has ever happend to this country, and Wyeth probably played the biggest role...

I'm floored at those cloud formations... Bugger....

I've got some B&Ws of Pyle's I could post on a new thread but it may take a week er two.... ??

    Thanks again,

um, n.c. wyeth and the wyeths after him ARE pretty famous, maybe not in your neck of the woods but around these parts of town they're very well known and hardly "lost in the void"

The only one of these guys that anyone really know of is Norman Rockwell. Even a lot of students and artists today don't know of them.

Or may be it just seems that way because they only make art books for reallll artists :o ... The art section in Barnes and Knoble is quite an irritating one.

    Hahahaha....

I used to work at B&N, 8 yrs actually... Art section?? What art section... I remember almost getting fired trying to pump up the art section with expensive biographies, and Illustrators annuals like AmerShowcase and Blackbook.. They just see it as loss... I'm glad their distributors finally picked up on Spectrum, and the Underwood titles though...
Blast... I can't even walk into modern book stores anymore without getting the willies... Brrrrrr...

All of the brandywine guys were awesome, but dean cornwell was by far the best in my opinion. And i think alot of students and artists don't know of them because whoever is teaching them doesn't have a traditional background, cause if they did they're names would eventually arise i think. But there a lots of other really good artists that most other artists don't know about. Saul Tepper, Mead Schaeffer, Peder Kroyer anyone?
