Offical information and Help for DSG

    The DSG

    · What is the DSG?
The dsg is a collection of artists who draw from a randomly generated topic which is given each day, and DSG stands for Daily Sketch Group.

    · When does the DSG start?
The topic is given at 1am (PDT) and ends at 12:59pm (PDT) so everyone has 23:59 hours to do it.

    · Where is dsg?
The topics are listed in the dsg forum or at http://www.conceptart.org/dsg

    · Can we chat in dsg threads or should we only post art?
YES! Talk and share opinions, references, questions and critiques

    · Is there a limit of entries?
Nope, No limit at all-- Feel free to post as much as you are inspired to do.

    · Is there a dsg chatroom?
We chat on the irc server irc.asylumnet.com in the channel #art . It is also the chatroom for conceptart.org and other friendly art forums. To get irc you must get a client, i suggest MIRC for windows users and for mac users to pick one from this http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/mac/

i'm little confused on it myself.

franz helped set it all up and then left...
the time it changes might change but it will still be 24hours so it generally doesn't matter

    ???

What's the deal now? Is this the new form of dsg, opening the threads in advance?

What's with the surprising moment at the chat when the subject is announced?

It turned out to a common speed painting thread...

Well, the SP4 thread on sijun has 140 pages... I think it's cool that there's 24hrs cuz I always miss the time. On the other hand there won't be any time triggered meetings in #sketch at a given time, but there wasn't that much dsg chatting going on there anyways since ppl were busy drawing.

I'm not sure how good idea it is to reveal the threads in advance tho.

Pacific Standard Time is probably some sort of US time, so it should be 6-9hrs after european time, which means that the deadline is 8am for me or so, I dunno.

PDT is GMT-8. The new DSG opens at 1:00am PDT (US west coast), which translates to 9:00/10:00/11:00am for Europe.. Depending on time zone and daylight savings. It's 10:00am for Sweden, I think.

franz helped set it all up and then left...
Yeah well, I spent two days programming the whole thing on my own, so I think I deserved a night off.

Pure sweetness... I was only able to make it to one DSG before, so this is huge. Great idea to change it to 24 hours.

Not to be a stick in the mud, but what was wrong with the way it was?

I'm not fond of forums, so I'd rather chat on IRC, and I liked the "live" feeling of the DSG... I am afraid this will disconnect me from the event (that is, the feeling that something is happening "now" will go away).

    /Robert

EDIT: Btw, is the 90 minute limit voluntary now? I guess there's no way to check anymore, is there...

    1) I had to do too much work since my irc script was screwy

    2) Most people interested couldn't do it because of timezones

PDT is also known as Pacific Time here in the states because that time zone consists of several states that stop at that ocean (I think). I was a little confused because I didn't know what the 'D' stood for (Daylight).

Cool! Now I can do DSG again.

Also, if you enjoyed hanging out for 90 minutes at 6:00, keep it up! If I get into a consistent habit, I will post and maybe we can form a splinter cell that meets at a more agreeable time.

you've labelled the start and finish times as 12 hours apart - one's am and one's pm. they should be the same if its a 24 hour period.

Also, to eliminate time zone confusions, try this page:

    http://www.timeanddate.com/time/abbreviations.html

Hopefully I'll get to have a go now...

Death is always on the way, but the fact that you don't know when it will arrive seems to take away from the finiteness of life. It is that terrible precision that we hate so much. But because we don't know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number really. How many more times will you remember as certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps 4 and 5 times more. Perhaps not even. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps 20. And yet it all seems limitless.

I'm a little confused. Part of the DSG was trying to do it in 90 mins, Is everyon still sticking to 90 mins? or could i spend my entire afternoon on it and still call it a DSG piece?

you can take as much time as you want on it but it's going to change the next day.

Most people are going to be doing speed paintings for this anyways, i can't picture people spending 5 hours on a dsg

I'm really looking forward to this new format, maybe now i can also join dsg from time to time.

Only point that i'm worried about, is that shitty timezone-thing. I guess i'm not the only one that gets confused with it.
A good idea would be doing an online-counter, that is set on the PDT time. This counter could be located on the conceptart.org/dsg page so everyone sees it, when checking the subject. At least for me, it would help a lot to see "20 hours 34 minutes left to go for the topic: blabla".
Maybe franz is not as happy as i am, because he's the poor guy who has to actually programm that counter... If that's the problem, i might help out, because i can also do some programming and the counter isn't _that_ complicated.
However, first of all it would be nice to hear what you guys think about the idea.

    1. Upload picture somewhere that allows outside linking. (ie, not GEOSHITTIES/TRIPOD etc.)

    2. [ i m g ] URL OF YOUR PICTURE [ / i m g ]

You do the [img] thing without the spaces. Tada.

    www.250free.com

if you want a sweet place to put your pics to put a pic site up at 250free.com they add one banner to the top of your page but you only have one pop up which is killer for a free site + they let you remote link

I am sure it is not approved of but deviantart doesn't block hotlinking so you can use them too.
