Yo, Penguin, came here from the CHOW to say that your design was certainly one of the best, if not the best. Great style and technique, man!

kingkostas, thanks man! I really look up to your work, your values are killer! I'm working on some more finished pieces right now, so I can practice my detailing skills. I always feel like its something I need to improve on.

HoodwinK, thanks, glad you enjoy it! Hope you can learn a lot around here like I did.

Kambei Shimada, appreciate it! I was just browsing through your sketchbook recently and became envious of your linework. How do you get such nice details without losing the big picture?

MrFrenik, and I actually liked my CHoW this time, even though it seems that not many other people did, hah. Thanks for the kind words!

So...my computer died. I think the power supply got fried during a power outage. Which means I have to draw on paper... and I haven't done that in a while haha. Please excuse the lack of pencil skills ( and the bad photos) until I can fix my computer.

Yeah Penguin..slowly learning a day at a time. I've been inspired a lot from various people here. Someday, maybe I could join some ChoW. I feel envious at those who participate in those.

Haven't painted anything in two months, slowly trying to get back into it.

One from imagination and one study.

Jeez, post 250 is full of awesomeness, and the last one of 252 has such an appealing palette and sense of illumination and movement, and I love 253 too. Your use of texture and atmosphere is so effective and beautiful

Ahhhh the last one in 255 has such gorgeous light and colour... how do you manage such rich colour? I -always- have trouble with that in photoshop, I mean I know it is something that builds up after lots of trial and error but do you have any tips?
Also the shadows in the mountains, the blue is so beautiful... mmmmm

The green sword guy in post #252 is FLIPPIN AWESOME!! I don't know how you do it but you manage strong colors soooo well. Those enviros in 255 are kick ass as well, and those sketches, and everything else. I can't believe I haven't found you before but I'll definitely be watching this sketchbook. Keep up the awesome awesome work!

I swear one day I'll be good. I swear one day I will be proud of my work. When that day comes, I'll need to kick my ass and try harder.

Oh man, I hadn't seen your sketchbook before, it's gorgeous! I love the first in #247, but I'm a sucker for quick sketches like your most recent post. Awesome work!

    Thanks everybody!

About getting rich colors... for me, it's all about the studying. I find photos, paintings or look at life with rich colors and observe and dissect why those colors together feel rich. Simple as that. After the study, I can apply that knowledge to whatever I'm working on to achieve that same effect.

On another note. I feel that experimentation is just as important as studying, because without experimentation, paintings tend to get robotic and lifeless. On the other hand, without studies, paintings tend to get too wild and intangible. A good balance is necessary, methinks. Hope this helps!

    Cheers!

Lovely colour and light in this last one! Great answer about colouring and balancing studies and experimentation.
