Great stuff! As I scrolled through your sb, I was a bit startled by the jump in quality on page two (due to your three-year absence), and it just keeps getting better. Keep going.

I'm very glad you like it, Ludic! I'll try to keep going.

More studies... is there anything that seems to be lacking from these paintings? A certain subject matter that I tend to avoid? I try to draw/paint everything I can, but obviously I'm missing tons of stuff.

I'm really loving your digital paintings - the values and atmosphere you create with light is fantastic p_p The studies look really gorgeous! And it's great that you do a whole variety of things and aren't afraid to try anything and everything new I would say maybe experiment with different people's body types and ages, or with different animals. Keep up the wonderful work!

Thanks everybody, I feel like I'm learning so fast right now. I'm not sure how visible it is in my work right now, but the progress I've been making is staggering to me. I guess it just shows how lazy I've been in the past.

In just three weeks, I've gone from this...

to this. crazy.... without ref btw

Lookin' good! Try not to use black and white though, it flattens the image. Your drawings are the shit. Your more monochromatic stuff is very solid. That enforcer up above is also very scary looking to fight in a game.

Your "smush face" on post #94, looks like it might have had two light sources, stick to one, like in your other portrait studies, look at the values on the neck vs the values on the left side of the face vs the right side. You can sometimes lose your values choosing colors. I know I do. Your values are what gives you pictures solidity. Your colors are you temperature and story and mood.

    Keep it up brosef.

Philosiflo: Umm, yeah. I'm not totally sure what I was thinking when I started painting with the black... I don't think I've ever done that before. I'm pretty sure I was just tired/not thinking straight.

As for the scarf portrait. I picked it specifically for its two light sources, I wanted to try it out. Sort've a test to see if I could distinguish between the two color temperatures. I'm not sure if you can tell in the painting, but there is a cool light coming from the right (her left), and a warm light from the upper left(her upper right). It was crazy fun to paint, and I learned a ton.

    Nice studies btw. Cheers.

Dazzamataz: Thanks! More posting on its way.

Sry for the lack of content. I'll try to scan more pencils and stuff.

If you squint your eyes it looks okay...

Thanks fellas, I really appreciate your comments.

Here's something I just finished. I think it turned out pretty good, mainly because I stopped thinking about what everyone else is doing and just painted stuff that I find interesting... (<---kind've a big duh, I should be doing this a lot more than I do.)

You have a really nice variety of study, practice, exercise, and style. Your lines are very nice, and your paintings are getting there quickly with the studies! You are hitting the perspective of your figures generally okay, your studies you seem to get it right for sure- but if there is something missing, its definitely hardcore ass-whooping perspective. Watch Scott Robertson's first "perspective drawing" dvd from gnomon, and repeat what he does for a long time. It will not only increase your ability to draw cars and planes and tanks and other mechanical stuffnjunk, it will very much help the way you think and deal with the figure.

    keep truckin'

Justin: Dang, solid advice. Perspective has always scared me for silly reasons. I always avoid it whenever possible, but I have been noticing that hiding from it drags my stuff down. Not much else to say other than, I'll get started on that. Thanks for the help.

Oh, and I forgot this. Not much, but eh.

prsnsweeney: Thanks, I guess I should do more environments.

On the raven piece, I reworked those shoulders so many times... like millions. ̶And I still find them very annoying, but I just could not get them right. Maybe, at a later time when I've learned more I can come back to it. (unless some one wants to do a paintover?)

Impressive stuff you got here, keep it up.
For your last one, maybe find some ref concerning the bones and muscles around the neck and upper torso, building the values of these might help you with the shoulders.
