Hey guys, i'm sorry i've been gone so long! I had trouble with my scanner *shakes fist* but hopefully it'll play nice now so i can get some more stuff up. Occurs to me i could've been uploading digital sketches but i'm not the brightest of people at times. I'll get right to it tonight though, again, sorry to have been so quiet!

    Finally!

Hi guys, finally here are some fairly boring sketches just to show you i'm still alive! These aren't meant to be anything special, just some doodles and the like (yes i know i'm obsessed with long ears, i'm a fantasy person, can't help it )

I know my pencil work still looks very...scruffy, but this paper is so textured it smudges easily (that's my excuse) so i'll try and get a better sketch book!

Sorry about the awful scans too

Huge load of fairly recent art alert!

Ok guys, finally got my act together and thought i'd show you a handful of some of my recent / semi-recent work.

Hopefully this way you'll get a taste of what i like to draw, and what i've been up to for the past year. Please bear in mind a lot of these were done before i'd even begun to look at any actual anatomy studies so they may be more than a tad rusty!

I've only just worked my way out of a habit where i drew legs too long and way too fat, so please ignore the pics where that's obvious too hehe.

A couple of them i hate for their obvious anime influences, and the glaring mistakes i now see, but hey, you live and learn (a lot since doing some of these, in my case)

So yes, old art alert! But please feel free to comment and i hope you enjoy some of it

Loomis, good stuff. His books taught me more than anything else really. Keep it up! You should get his head & hands book too.

Hey Zimzibar. Good to see you posting. Showing some good enthusiasm, which is also good. Just keep up the loomis studies, they will help with your basic figure work. Your portrait work is good, it seems like you put an infinite amount more effort into those than the rest of your work, apply that enthusiasm to the rest of your work and your progress will come blindingly fast.

Thanks so much guys, it was nice to be able to show you a bit of what i like to draw

AmontilladoAg - that one you like was a quick painting done for a scene from a friend's novel, which he wants me to do the art for, i've been developing the characters' looks too, so it'd be nice to get better at faces and figures so i can do a good job for him It's a bit small to see but there are 3 teeny people on the dragon's back

28chelseaslater - Ahh how i need help with heads and hands...I'll def be looking in to those!

Chaotic and Sepul - thanks for your encouragement again guys, it's great being in a sketchgroup with you the portraits do have a lot more effort put into them, you're right, but i think that's cos i enjoyed doing something new (semi-realism entirely painted in photoshop).

I used to do a lot of work in markers which i can only do so much in unfortunately, cos i've never really learnt any techniques to improve with that medium. Photoshop is great for experimenting and pushing pictures though so i'll be doing more in that to build my confidence

The last one looks pretty cool, though the rose seems a little too bright. You should be careful as to your composition. It feels strange that the left ear just touches the sword and that the outline of the rose leafs just touch the necklace. Things like that seem kind of unnatural, you should try to let them overlap more. Also I feel it is not that interesting, that everything is centered, the head directly in front of the frame, you know what I mean? But I like the colors and the gold looks really nice!
