i found the comments guestbook i left out for my last show got really bland responses (they were favorable, but rather lacking in articulation) so for this next round i decided to whip up a feedback survey form.

I like your pencil sketches very much. It'f funny, they appear to be quite soft while your other works (especially the last on on page 7) make me think of exploding shivers or something like that.
Your style is very nice, though.
It just surprised me to see that difference

Fetid: thanks. i go western oregon university. getting a BS degree in photography, painting, printmaking and graphic design with a minor in art history.

kev ferrara: ha, glad you enjoyed the form. i hope people take the time to fill it out.

iphigen: thanks for dropping by and leaving such kind words. hmm soft pencil sketches, i always considered them fairly harsh in value shifts.

mmkay folks here's some notes from class. most have reference, but i was pulling forth a majority of it from memory (as i didnt have photos sitting with me at the desks)

your cmyk piece is rather witty, i really like it. also, your use of lines and also constant use of black white and shades of grey is also very good. you have a very interesting sketchbook! keep it up!

btw, i really like your fill out form

hey man, love the new updates. also, the sketchbook with the pens is very interesting. whats your style? i mean, i see alot of shapes to make a bigger object, that is unique. i might pick up on it myself. anyways, thought id swing by and drop a line. peace out

ive been seeing that sort of line quality in recent street art, almost a thick crosshatching that flattens instead of establishes rendering. not sure if it has a name.

Wow cool stuff here. Alot of your stuff look like anime and graphic design. I'd say watch your anatomy some of the heads on these ladies look smashed in from behind. You need to round them out a bit because you also have to remember that you need room for the brain. Also watch the arms and legs in some of your images the arms are longer then the legs and the legs being to narrow and short.

crazy sketchbook here! Lots of energy in here.

I don't like most of your actual work. It comes off as generic-emo, or sloppy anime. But when I look more carefully, I see traces of more interesting and original content. I like what you draw, but I hate the way you draw it.

Anyways, just being honest. I hope you don't take it the wrong way. I don't think you would be compromising your artistic integrity if you aimed to develop your style into something either more commercial friendly, or more edgy. Experiment with more extreme tones/textures, play with scale, and I'd like to see more perspective in your compositions.

    thanks for the feedback guys.
don't worry about bruising me with your comments, if you see shit that doesn't work speak up and let me know. i really appreciate it.

    generic-emo and sloppy anime.
i'll need to think on that. as both are not in my lexicon or efforts as i make lines. style. i need to read more about methodologies and process. style.

    style.

i was going to type a bit in response, but i'm rather tired. i'll just let those words sink in til i can understand them, as of now they have little meaning to me and i fear i can't make a proper route to counter my currect actions as i create.

Experiment with more extreme tones/textures, play with scale, and I'd like to see more perspective in your compositions.
more extreme tones? sir i'm using the most extreme of tones already! holy smokes, that'll be tough, but i'll see if i can't push those values to absurdity. and more scale! sir you'll need to explain this, what level of scale are you talking about?

i'm loving the challenge. asking questions will cause me to have to find answers. again much thanks.

There's almost a Fine Art quality, in how your drawings are clustered and choatic. (Like any Abstract painting, from Jackson Pollock) You obviously have alot of talent, though I would suggest tidying up some of the works, whilst trying to keep the scratchy aesthetic. (Adding a few more defining lines would help, for me those people without outlines makes my eyes go '0_o'... Don't ask why.)

And as someone else said there are some anatomy issues, especially with the girl on the chair with her leg layed on a table, the pose looks a little stiff.

My sketchbook, if you really want to see it...

    ha, thats great.

    thanks for the comment kagemusha22
i actually enjoy operating a bit on that balance between 'too little' of information and what would normally be 'enough'. there's a nice tension wher eit takes the form a second to appear, and in that time i'm not always sure what i'll see emerge. the information is usually always there... just with implied lines instead of contour (refering to the last few pages, sod anything from 2007 or earlier)

been a hell of a long time since i peeked in here, i really like all your pen sketches, and your use of solid black with white no midtones actually works very well, keeps the eye entertained. keep up the good work.

Just been paging through your sketchbook... a lot of really great images here, but, to me, the most psychologically interesting bit was your 'story time' post. Maybe it's just my own perception, but I see a few contradictions within the post itself - also towards your artwork, as I can't personally see the connection to some of the stuff in here (but, really, what do I know).

Anyway, all I'm really trying to say is that it would be interesting to see you analyze yourself and your surroundings the same way you did in that post, but visually, more often. Is it all really black and white?
