tank girl and ashley wood - ITS HERRRRE!!

Can you say, a match made in heaven? Seriously, I saw a poster with ashley wood's iconic illustrations, and then the words TANK GIRL, and my heart started fluttering, my palms sweating, my eyes glazed over and a neat line of drool seeped from the corner of my mouth.. I'm on the waiting list and it should be released on australian shores in a few weeks time. Anyone else aware of this delicious development?

Saw it on his blog a while back, interesting direction he's taking with the character designs. She looks all conservative heh heh heh.

EDIT: fixed the link! if it doesn't work just go to http://ashleybambaland.blogspot.com and hike back to January.

The poster was in a window of a local comic shop here in adelaide, Qitsune. The guy behind the counter said it should be out in the next fortnight or so.

cool, i am not sure how his style will suit tank girl there was something about hewlett's designs the attitude...

i got that warm fuzzy feeling when i heard frank miller and greg capullo were doing a batman/spawn once off so far no sign of it happening.

"When asked if he would return to comics by Jonathan Ross on an edition of Ross's chatshow on November 25th 2005, Hewlett said no, but he had several ideas which he may do one day."

Jamie probably doesn't want to touch tank girl anymore because of the later incarnations and particularly the flop of the movie. It's more than understandable, plus Tank girl is possibly not as relevant today as it used to be in the late eighties and early nineties. Definetely things to consider for Hewlett himself.

On top of that he has a good thing with Gorillaz.

I think that comparing two great artists is not a good thing to do. But its inevitable, especially when both are have worked/are working on the same series. I dont think that people who have read tank girl will take ash in jamies place easily. but for the new readers(like me ) the rides gonna be fun.And also I wouldnt want to see anybody in place of ash wood for a comic like Automatic kafka or popbot.
And yeah I would want to jamie to do more gorillaz stuff.

if you have had the opportunity to check out the way in which Wood handled Metal Gear Solid (of which i feel he did it justice), i think his style will fit in seamlessly into the Tank Girl world. post apocalyptic, messy and makeshift, thats Wood to a tee.

Hewlett did Gorillaz? no WONDER those lines seemed so freaking familiar when they first came out. haha i cant believe its taken this long for the penny to drop for me. oh wells

Oddly enough that isnt what Tank Girl is about for ME at ALL!!! Tank girl the essence of 90s "pop"unk, so beautifully unPC it hurts. Even though Wood will do his thing (MTG solid is great) there will be only one tank Girl... Hewletts.
And as much as I hate being a fanboy whos afraid of change, I have to stick with this one....

I'm an old enough fart to remember Tank Girl in Deadline, and do agree with Nic that there can be only one, Hewletts. However, I think that Ashley Wood could bring a completely new dimension to her. I just hope he keeps the anarchic, don't give a f**k feel. I used to know so many girls back 'then' who wanted to be and made every attempt possible to look like Tank Girl. Sigh...

On the subject of Jamie Hewlett, has anyone ever read Hewligan's Haircut, drawn by Hewlett and written by Peter Milligan?

LOL. Gorillaz hit down under years and years ago, were not that behind in the world - the truth being whilst i admired the drawings i never took the initiative to do some background research on the artist/s responsible

i just got my copy. came out today. its got that new comic smell. havent read it properly yet, but from a few flick-thru's its pretty hot looking. from first glance he's made her a little rounder in the face than hewlett's version. i was kinda expecting a thicker chunk all at once, but its only issue one and only about 50 pages, if that. still, it looks promising

had a better read on the bus last night. they have no conniptions about dropping the F-bomb and such, and the language seems pretty true. its good because its not following the original plot, but its a bunch of smaller stories based on the characters weve all come to love.

    spoiler may follow...

for instance, booger and tank girl are officially an item, which is a pleasant continuation of the implied chemistry in the movie. i still gotta get the original Hewlett graphic novel (next on my list) for comparisson, so dont flame me if im getting it all horribly wrong
