Huge fan of your work man, I have just one question. How do you pick your colors? Do you start off just doing it all black and white, then mess with layers or hues, or what? I'd love to hear back from you, thanks bro! Keep up the great work, I bought the issue of PSM just for your Haze art

Man. Such inspiring work. Really love that dragon piece.
I totally love the texture of your illustrations... the strokes are fantastic! I've gone and bought a couple of packs from this set... I gave this game up a decade ago, and this is the first I've seen of it in a long time... holy FUCK the artwork is so much more sexy than it used to be. I recently scored a few illos myself with them. Any suggestions for a first-timer illustrator in the Magic Card theatre of destruction?
Wickedness is a myth invented by good people to account for the curious attraction of others.
Look at the monkey wh0re himself out:
Hehe I read the new Magic-books a few weeks ago and I was fascinated by the cover picture of book 3... now I finally know who did it. Gods, you're a genius!
There is a day when all departs
I´m coming out of age,
all your chains and all your wards
someday will be unmade.
Be prepared of me these days
as all of you shall be
when all my false and rodent faiths
break ´way just as do we.
et les closeup, ca vient bien achever la chose.
Yeah, I saw a magic trick where the magician shows a small round black case. Inside are 3 blackish discs. One disc is all black. Another has a sun on either side. The last disc has a sun on one side but not on the other. I asked him what trick it was and how to perform it, but he didn’t teach me. Can anyone tell me what magic trick that was and how it's performed? Thank you very much in advance.
i must have left free radical jsut b4 you worked on that. I did a few environment concepts b4 leaving. I havent played the game but it got some bad reviews. Grumble.
Awesome designs. love the magic stuff
You're just a rockstar Aleksi. Can't wait the next illustrations you'll post, as each new one is a lesson itself.
Just finding some free room -I've just finished my new Spawn : Architects of Fear graphic novel and I'm now in the process of creating a whole new videogame project and development studio- so I've used it to lurk on the board, finding inspiration and lot of kickass visual material. This forum rocks!
Thanks all for the nice feedbacks! Some answers :
Illysian : Yeah, mainly photoshop. Also Painter and Artrage when I nedd a more painterly approach (brushstrokes and not "layered" composition). It depends.
The Merlin book is still on track and work in progress. 75% are now completed. I was recently a little bit "overbooked" with so much things to manage. Jean-Sebastien "Living Rope" Rossbach recently did a tremendous job on the book and finished tons of kick-ass paintings and pages. It will worth the wait!
It depends but usually I'm starting with a desatured but colored background. Adding few colors information but trying to find a specific mood since the begining.
I'll post my HAZE concept arts soon in another thread!
Here is the making of the white demon pic (with different steps images), on the WotC website :
Plantman : I've just went few times at Free radical for discussing about art direction and concepts, as a freelance. It was short but fun. I really loved working on this game (I love the subject).
Kemar : Thanks a lot. Your stuff is also really inspirational!
Really awesome and inspirational! I really dig the first 4 pics. Thanks!
Hi I have been (one of many) admirers of your work for ages very insperational.... ok enough fan boyishness.
