I'm thinking of a survivalist who uses found technologies of the previous civilization.

Reference that comes to mind are: Mad Max, Fallout, Wasteland

    Topic elements:

    1. Post-apocalyptic
    2. Scavenger

It was hard trying to raise the bar, some had value in certain areas even if a little unfinished. Some may wonder why certain unfinished entries made it but theirs didn't. It was because even though unfinished, they just managed to barely make it based on other aspects. Remember, the most important thing is participating.

I settled for getting the entries down to fitting on one page.

Not clearly marked finished, no border with label:
    Wakkawa
    gtgauvin
    cakeypigdog
    JoeSolo
    hammajamma
    Rudeone
dragon4lunch - I would have okayed this if it had a border + labels around it.
    Keda - ditto
    ashton
Landauart - so well thought out. Another that would have been okayed
    Krunner
    cognition.sb - this one too

    1st round elimination:
Meatsworthy - in order to judge fairly, I gots to be first to go
JAG. - The forms read and I like the concept. I would have liked to seen it resolved just a little further in concept and painting.
themissinglink - A good understanding of light, I think some rigorous drawing practice will be of great benefit
Tydal - feels desolate as a wasteland should, but it also feels a little unresolved
IvanChristian - I appreciate the concept and the design is well thought out
Splittingadams - If it was just slightly neater, it would have beaten out one of the entries that made it
llothcat - I like that you've laid it out well, just watch those edges. Unfortunately it's also feeling unfinished

    2nd Round Elimination
    darkrain
    punkbound

The rest make it to the next round!

    Notes:
Joe12South - first entry taken if 2 submissions disallowed
OBLIO - sory for the late poll. i made it in super speed. Apart from what Meastowrthy said i got to make an extra filter - there are images that are WIP stage that would make the quality bar, and finished that did not - i exluded both.
I made a clean up based on quallity - but thigs are really blurry now. MY appologies.
I hope that any possible winner i IN the poll this time.
Thank you for being brave to be in CHOW. CHOW requires character RESPEKT.

30% of the ones that are already on the poll shouldn't be there. We will rize the quality bar higher. Always

    Here's my final:

    Word, my pencils have arrived:

The little girl is like a super tinkerer and she's cobbled together a big bear bodyguard to protect her in the wastes. Starting this week I've been trying to work on my perspective skills (which altogether have been stagnant. Lots of floating character disease, hack cough). So yeah, trying to make the environment as interesting as the characters in it. Pardon the dust...

From the makers of Honeycomb and Fruity Pebbles comes new Post Apocalypse. Nuke tested, mother approved.

deftonys, for a second I hoped the game you mentioned STALKER was related to the film: http://dryden.eastmanhouse.org/films/stalker/
but probably not. Pardon the passing meme...

Finished! Included a profile view to show the scaring on his face.

He was only a child when they came. No one knows (or remembers) when the outbreak started. They came though, swarming through the cities. His family was devoured. He survived by pure luck, overlooked by the wandering hoard. When they left, he learned to take care of himself. He started gathering, starting a new home with a few other local survivors. They had power, water, everything. Then they got lazy. A new wave of the walking dead came. He was so scared, he ran. He realized that a settlement would always leave itself open to the creatures. So he started wandering, living off the land. From time to time he would come across a zombie but he learned how to fight them off. He even learned how to treat the wounds so the virus wouldn't spread. The treatment would only stop the spread, the location of the wound would eventually scar horribly, as it it was dead flesh. When he lost his hand, he fashioned a device to hold a shotgun and bayonet, fired by a triggering mechanism that locked into his arm muscles.

We continued to gather things to himself. When he would come across a settlement of survivors, he would raid them at night, taking things he wanted. He would eventually lure the undead to the site, causing chaos amongst the people while he gathered more and took advantage of the women. Sometimes, if the situation was grim, he would join the fight against the undead. But if escape was easy, he would let the zombies destroy the settlement. He has no regard for human life and sees it only as something to take advantage of. All he cares about is what he can get from them, what he could pick clean, what he could scavenge!

mice topic, every week CHOW is giving me a realization that i still have many things to learn......... anyway this is my brainstorming

maybe I'll go with the idea of that the scavenger is some kind of an archaeologist or something similar with that type, so i incorporate / combine some 'ancient' element mixed with futuristic suit

    finished:

    ...finished...

    Description

In the end it was the results of cataclysmic global warming which brought the human race to the edge of extinction. Those who were left were the isolated, self sufficient remnants of our vast civilisation. Over time they congregated to form ragged, nomadic settlements. Pitted against an incredibly harsh, changeable climate, they had to travel vast distances on foot, carrying their scavenged, make-shift settlement on their backs. The stilts came about in order to speed up the process of covering these huge distances on foot, when wearing stilts one stride measured almost four metres. These people developed huge, powerful leg muscles, whilst in motion their arms hung crumpled at their sides, their posture bent and hunched from the huge weights they had to carry on their backs.

Final stuffs been posterised. check it!

The future is basicly the same thing like the Ol Wild West (only smellyer), this guy walks the earth looking for landmines/ prenuke-wepons and granades, later he sells them to the local spacebay pirates. Right now he's imagening what thoes ol mini Uzis from before the Nuke-Apocalypse must have felt like (there really hard to come by these days).

    Rough story:
"Many years from now, after a great nuclear war,the once united city states of the East Royal Continent now are at war against each other.
The army of Neo-Suiyan is using it's men for heavy fighting.
Therefore the quest for food is left to the children. The army uses special units for training children to hunt for food in the barren wastelands of the mongolian north. These units have access to the ancient hangars. There, there are resting the "Iron Horses",exoskeletons used by Dragoon Knights of a former era.
The Neo-Suiyan army is training children between ages of 12-16 who are not yet ready to go to fulltime war to pilot the "Iron Horses".
    They are called Scavenger Knights."

New rough sketch. I really need to resist the temptation to jump straight into final execution and spend more time thumbnailing. New resolution: I don't touch my stylus for the next two days...

Update 5/17: I was thinking about alternative conveyances today. I expect to see a good deal of shopping carts springing up, and I wanted to do something different. I considered a rolling hand truck, or maybe one of the modified motorcycles that people around here use to pick up recyclables. Then, this afternoon, I was standing in the subway, looking at an ad with a big picture of a bridge over a river, and it gave me an idea. At first I was going to go with a basic raft or barge, but after doing a little research, I settled on something with a little more personality.

It really nice seeing so many variations of this character. Mine's brinking on the edge of overkill, but here's the finished Post-apocalyptic Scavenger:

Her name is Kora. She was part of a small refugee camp after the Great Nuclear War. Her camp had been attacked by a group of rogue scavengers that raped the women, pilaged, and killed everyone in sight. At least the perpetraters thought. She had been beaten unconscious during the incident, but when she awoke, she swore to avenge her friends. She now travels the wastelands, seeking out the bastards. Only then will she be able to rest, and live a relatively normal life.

Now this is a topic I can dig my teeth into.
Here's my initial sketch. I'll refine it a bit in my WIP.

You can work now and play later, or play now and work later.

Yes, let's roll! Promising round everyone - here's mine:

A crazy leader of a biker-gang. She's better off than most people I guess - doesn't have to wear trash. She found an African mask, that she thinks is pretty cool or wicked, a term she likes to use a lot. The word cool is hardly in use anymore, 'cause it's so pre nuclear-winter.

EDIT: I'll be updating her a couple more times at least, til deadline.

love this topic! Here is the wip.

This scavenger has been in his game far too long but he still roams the rad-zones in search for the ultimate relic.

Here's my entry. My scavenger is old and thoughtful as he is probably last survivor of the human race whit no hope living in the empty but dangerous world.

Here's my take on the theme. I'm really enjoying trying out new techniques in Painter and PS.

    Favourites so far:

Nuru: I like your style. Reminds me of Tim Burtons work.

Keda: Your line work suits the design perfectly.

Polonoid: I like the design of the exo skeleton. Reminds me of a post apocalyptic ED209.
