    Red face Fallen Valkyrie

I am now painting this. I am enjoying all the entries. Very good work.

Had to do the Mother's day thing so I didn't get to finish the painting, but will for my own learning purposes.

Edit: Here's the pencil sketch I'm going to work from:

I was most impressed by the relationship Valkyries used to have with wolves and ravens that got lost in the later romantic depictions of them. I thought of the fallen Valkyrie as being an agent that may work against the Valkyries still in good standing. Instead of delivering fallen warriors to Valhalla maybe she would feed them to Loki's demon army or something. I'm going to try to show some mind vs. body conflict in her too. Her noble soul is trapped and forced to witness the rudeness her body has set out to do. It will work or I'll fall on my hind
I'm hoping to have her wrapped up by tomorrow since the weekend is shot for me. We'll see.

I'm in too, w.i.p. pending. This is a good excuse to start reading the Volsung Saga too...

Min, I edited your third link so it shows the correct pic. (I don't know why it wouldn't work before.)
And I also added a fourth link.

The ONLY REQUIREMENT IS ARMOUR!! so wrap her in some armour of some sort... otherwise valkyries are FEMALE only apparently...
but I think this is heaps more open than last round.. anything goes..

and the little sentence after the topic is just a background story on this fictional character. and it's upto you how you design this. and if you are not sure what valkyrie is check the link provided, 5 minute read will give you an idea that valkyrie is from norse mythology, female who served odin.

    thanks emily!

just to make sure it's clear, the brief is for a "mythological" treatment of valkyrie, right? i can see an armoured female as part of a squad called the Valkyries, in the service of an organization called O.D.I.N., as a viable "futuristic" interpretation of the theme (with some interesting options for being "fallen to the underworld"), but not if it's only historical/mythological.

it's also kind of interesting how much of Norse mythology is pretty ambiguous about "good" and "evil," with some of the more infamous characters (like Loki) playing both sides, and some of the heroes engaging in some pretty sketchy behavior as well. it often seems that some of the conflicts among the Norse gods were more class warfare than a battle between good an evil.

its worth mentioning that "originaly" valkyries were female spirits that devoured warriors on the battlefield.
