i don't know why, but it seems your creatures look flat. try doing some rendering on them.

Hey Ignominious, your Bridgman studies are good and I can see that you observational skills are good, alot better than I was when I was your age. Keep at it and you'll definitely gain a better understanding and help your anatomy drawings. I still have alot to learn too . I like your creatures too...would be good to see more in 3/4th views so you can practice you perspective too. Do you have a structure in you drawing or do you just draw what you see from you mind staright on to paper?

Thanks for visiting my sketchbook I can see a lot of improvement in your own work from page 1 to 4. Are you still in school? College?

Thanks for coming by my book!

You do a nice job of finding the contours and shapes of things, but I think you need to start pushing yourself at defining for with shadows. Find the contours of shadows now, just as you have found the contours of the forms themselves. Try to notice at least two different values of "dark" on each form and a third value of "highlight" and block those shadows out. It'll really bring your pencils to a new level, I think.

Really good work for your age man... I'm sure it's more than redundant by now in this thread, but I wish I was that developed and driven at your age. All that aside, you've still got work to do (we all will for the rest of our lives), so keep at it. I bet you'll be a beast in a few years.

    Nam-haha, thank you so much
    Flaskpost-thanks
snubbed-oh my gosh!! you're so right! i really do need to do that more, i'll be doing my best
    SugaCrl-yeah, i'm a sophomore in high school
TerryWu-thanks! i'll try to do that. i usually TRY to have a structure in my head before i start drawing, but most of the time, it ends up that i just go with it. unfortuantly, my work sometimes reflects that aspect of not-being-planned
Anurizm-thanks! i'm trying to work more on that

wow, okay, please don't comment on how long it's been since i last posted. i just haven't been much of a fervor for drawing lately. anyways, here's some new stuff. i'm trying to get into color more. i think i'm going to also try to render more often. i think i'm digging myself into a dangerous contour rut. you can't see it that much in these ones, but most of my drawings now are just complex outlinings.

keep doing the self portrait, they are getting better with each one. If you using prismacolor pencils you should start really putting the wax down and be bold with it. Grab a few pencils for your colors and do some color tests and put the color down hard and sharp. Try to not just scribble it down.

I like this a lot. The mixture of graphite and your placement of colors is nice. Its simple. The gray of the graphite is overpowering the color though.

Reflect your studies with whats coming out of your head and you'll be on the right path.

this one is pretty awesome man -

I agree with Matsign though, you should be more bold with the color pencils, also when you render with normal pencils I would advice you to work with strokes, Like this - |||||||||, instead of mostly scribling the values down.
It takes some time but works great when mastered. ,)

Btw - love your creature designs. pretty damn awesome. Love the animal studies too, I should do more of those. Oh and thanks for stopping by my SB!

Nice stuff mate, I'm sure you've heard it before, but keep up those studies and draw from life, nothing will help you more.
