    West Coastin'

    Just playing around with a more painterly approach in Photoshop. I had originally colored the character a few months back, but I wasn't satified with the results. I repainted the piece from scratch. Once I started painting, I fought to keep the freshness of the original sketch.

    Nice technique. I know what you mean about trying to keep the freshness of the sketch in the final. I think you got it.

    painting is always extremely difficult to keep the freshness in. perhaps a graphic style (example- cheeks) or painted in a looser way would help towards this.

    I like the sketch, I don't really like the color choices for the painting, I agree , try to make the painting a little looser, show some more paint strokes, don't do much blending, let the colors and values show your forms, maybe experiment with more colors in the skin tones and make the gun looks shiner.

    The sketch is nice, I like the style.
