These are really good. I especially love the Tachikoma and Tetsuo. XD And Jack Nicholson. You've got a great start to a sketchbook here, especially with the anatomy studies and the color studies (like the closeup of the eye- wow!), and though I normally would say to try to stray from too much anime, it's obvious you have a good understanding of realism as well, so I won't bother. XD I'm almost ashamed to say that when I saw that first anime picture, with the heads at different angles, I recognized it immediately because I own that book. But it's in storage anyways.

Keep up the good work! I'm really impressed with your abilities. ^^
You can be the best at what you do, but you've never learned everything about anything.

    Chizome:

Thanks for the comments... I know, anime is one of those guilty pleasures of mine (it's one of the things that got me interested in drawing in the first place). I try to refrain from drawing it but sometimes... well, I'm weak...

Btw... I checked out your SB.... very impressive!

Wow, Nismo, really awesome work! I especially enjoy the nude figure and the Disgaea penguin thing. Awesome color on that! The orange, also, is done very well. The last anatomy study seems a little off; I judge by those little ?'s, you think so too! That's very good that you recognize what doesn't look quite right in your art.

As for books... that's difficult. The only human antomy book I own is Gray's Anatomy (which, don't get me wrong, is very useful), and I don't own any figure drawing books but I did check one out from the school library. It wasn't very good, so I won't bother recommending it. Another really good source to use, though, is Leonardo da Vinci's anatomy sketches. They've helped me out a lot! Although, I haven't found more than these, they're incredibly useful. The only thing is that you need to make sure of is that you can think in 3-D. When you draw the arm from different angles, try to connect one muscle with another, or when you draw it in a different view, think that 'this muscle in this drawing is the same as that muscle in that drawing.' It helps out a ton!
You can be the best at what you do, but you've never learned everything about anything.

Hey Chizome. Thanks for the comments and advice, and the link... I'll definately give those a go! I really need to work on anatomy. I totally agree about thinking in 3d... problem is that the human body is one of the most complex 3d objects I can imagine... Oh well, practice practice practice.....

Things I REALLY need to work on:

    Figure/life drawing
    Colour theory
    Stroke economy
    Perspective
    LOOSENING UP

Just a quick one for tonight... not very happy with it but I'm posting it anyway... I really need to loosen up my style I think... Its pretty frustrating!

    anyway, off to bed....

    Bridgman Is Your Friend

Alesoun: Thanks for the comments... Hands are bloody hard! Especially if you want to render them in any detail... The best practice I think is to draw your own.

Here is an update... some more bridgman studies. This guy is awesome. I love the way he deconstructs the human body into masses, wedges and blocks...

Horses are terrific fun to draw! Your proportion flaws are that the foreleg nearest the viewer is too short; that's what makes you think that the others are too long; also, the back is a tad too long. Your hatching is good, though, and the head is beautifully rendered. Keep going!

Thanks Alesoun - well spotted! Thats the second horse I've ever drawn, so the proportions are a bit alien to me. Thanks for pointing out the foreleg thing! that should be easy to rectify. I also agree about the body being too long. Weird that I couldn't spot that until you said! Thanks again!

I'm gonna do a whole bunch of other animals as well I think... watch this space!

Hey! I used to work with horses, until I stopped bouncing painlessly when I fell off! The lines and curves of them, the textures of hooves and flesh and mane are fascinating for design as well as life drawings. That drawing has a lot of promise. keep going.....

But they truly are lovely, well-executed drawings apart from that! You want embarassment? My hands and feet sketches are truly awful!
