Hi there, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!
i think the skull study really shows improvement.

you asked me about suggestions for linework, it's quite hard to give a good answer really.. when i draw, i always start with a light pressure on the paper, and draw long loose lines to find something that i like.(this is referred to as "searching" the line) when i do find the line i want, i increase the pressure, and thus accentuate the line.

that probably just messes it up even more for you

naturally, this comes with mileage.. the more you draw, the better your linework will get!

Hey! Don't worry about drawing people! Half the time they don't notice; the other half they think you're writing a diary or something, or think you're nuts and give you a wide berth......

Dave: It's still not done. D: I get distracted too easily, and the stripes frustrate me too easily.

    Megann: Thanks!

notic: I'll try that, and different ways of creating a line, as soon as I get my anatomy down! One thing at a time or I'll go nuts.

alesoun: hahah, one guy definitely noticed me staring, and he was right next to me. he looked mad. I felt creepy.

    agelaos: ! i will!

A few things I drew today:

This looks better in my sketchbook. D: The scanner took out a lot of the values.

Terrifyingly hilarious little girl. I cut out a mustache from a magazine and glued it to her face. I donno, hahah

& I'm still working on this =(, I get distracted too easily. Hopefully I can just sit down and finish it tomorrow. I don't know what to do for a background yet.

30 second poses! Tons of 'em. They're not that good but eh. Any suggestions on how to make it easier?

haha, i love that old guy at the very bottom, very nice studies.

For your 30 seconders, I wouldn't pay much attention to the head, just make a quick circle or something and focus on the body pose. If you read some of Loomis's book you can also just use his stick figure method to draw some of them.

agelaos: thankssss, I read some of Loomis's figure drawing book but I have the worst attention span. I'll get back to it sooner or later.

    Yacob: thanks so much!

Dave: thank youuu...! i dont think i remember what a viewfinder is, but cmon it totally looks like a scuba man

Spent all night finishing this god damn thing, & I'm mad that the scan of this doesn't do it justice at all. It made her hair look all shiny & her skin look all choppily shaded, but it's not in real life! I promise. I messed around with it in photoshop to try and make it look right, but I still don't think it does. D:

Hey there, thanks for the commment! It's nice to see people my own age on here lol. I like your work lots, spech the portraits, I like that you put lots of depth into them if that makes sense. Like.. they're quite dark shading wise which makes the highlights stand out more but also make the shadows really black.. so yeah! ace! Kitten is cute too, I like the eyes.

Um if I had to give critique, i think it might be that you need to make sure you get the proportions of faces correct, they seem to slip a little bit. I do the same! .__. try holding the drawing up to a morror, it really helps i think.

Rock on Against me! & Tegan and Sarah! hehe, I'll defo check back on this SB!

Dave: yah i know, my eyes are down too low or something, at least thats what it looks like to me.

maturin: Yeah, I feel like such a young one in this forum. it's a little intimidating. I tend to love to shade dark, it looks nicer to me. My proportions are a little off usually, I'm trying to work on it. & its awesome that you know those bands.

Started a self portrait today to replace the god awful one I did a couple years ago that's hanging in my house. These are just the lines, I tried to mark all the shadows, to see if that would help me:

& something I doodled while waiting to get picked up that I liked. I tried to erase the dirty scan with my mouse on photoshop. D:

Hiya' miss thang. Thanks for stopping by my SB! Yeaaayy for green tigers!!

Wowee, you are improving leaps and bounds from the word go. I love the stuff at the beginning of this thread, the cartoonish guys and the people of the fro'. Very quirky and original.

Even better is the progress you've made in wildlife and portraits. That last self-portrait is friggin awesome and the one with you and a friend(?) above it...good stuff.

But one of my favorites on the thread so far is the black woman with the tigers. Her face is beautiful, something about her expression blows me away. It's hard for me to look elsewhere in the piece, actually. Damn, I think I'm in love...is she referenced from something? The tigers are good too. One crit is that, as is, the tigers are all the same value scale and so they run together- hard for the eye to separate. I want you to push the values just a bit further on it, if you dare. I think that would take it to another level.

Great stuff here, I'll be watching for more.

    Watch out for Piranhas

    agelaos- thanks!

Dave: yeah, I wear that necklace every day now haha. thanks love!

Piranha clan- Thanks so much! The lady is referenced from a photo, I haven't drawn very much from my mind lately. I want to get better at portraits so I get a good sense of what faces look like in my mind. I was gonna go back and touch up that drawing before I put spray fixative on it, since its getting all smudged in my sketchbook, so I will try to separate the tigers.

    Rhineland- thank you!

I've been studying Loomis's figure drawing book like crazy lately, but I won't bore you with all those pages. Here's some kinda finished stuff I did yesterday. Not much.
