CHOW #67 - VOTING - Guest Host: Poshspice Topic: Crud Buttowski - Space Trucker

Perpetually cheerful, except with other Space Lane users, whom he just regards as an inconvenience, he's always on the lookout for the Rozzers (an old British Earth coloquialism meaning police) or a couple of hot hitchers. Puffing on his cheroot and either chatting on the SCB (space citizen band radio) or singing along to his favourite choon, the days couldn't be happier for Crud.
He can be alien or humanoid. It's up to you. Just have fun with him in any style you want!
1 = Trucker... sort of.
2 = Cheerful
3 = Not particulary a master of personal hygeine.

This is as far as I could get this week. I don't think it'll go to the polls, but I'd thought I'd share my approach anyways.
Crud Buttowski is the offspring of Chuck and ^(*^(*^(% Buttowski (not sure how to pronounce the mother's name). He's the result of one of Chuck's pit stops out in the Void, Sector 13, where he picked up a species not seen in these parts. The two galloped of into the big dipper, one thing led to another, and so we have Crud. Crud says he's got the best attributes: his dad's occupation and brains to his mom's charming smile and good looks. Crud hopes to bring honor to the family name by doing the best he can, trucking it amongst the stars.
That's what I got. Cool entries guys and best of luck.

Here's my WIP, making the mecharm i realised it has resemblance with a character from Disney's Treasure Planet.
Meet Crut 'Spacebubble' Buttowski. There isn't a place in the galaxy he hasn't seen. From the far waterjungles of Gasda to the icy planet of Kleusoerloe Crut's bin there, delivering whatever it is he's got in his SilverGlide 6000 Pantecnicon. Farting and swearing but always polite to a handsome lady. Crut's specialy known for his jokes, the one about the Teloshian Fasdagh comes from him lol.

Ok, so here is my initial wip. He needs a tough rig and a sweet babe(or a sweet rig and a tough babe).
Uh-oh Tommoy, looks like we found the archetype pretty quickly. Mine looks like my dad.
Are we allowed to post a wip, then update it or should I hold off till its finished? If so I can take this sketch down
until its refined. I am new but I thought I saw people doing that in the Petra Hepburn chow.
Ok, so I decided to make an illustration of it and now I've gone off the deep end. No turning back, even if it doesn't
get finished before the deadline.
Workin' on the pants...

some thumbnails I managed to knock out at work
no time to finish.....

I will try this but I am doing the COW too so I may not be able to finish. UPDATED...again! No time to color but this is my final line art. I needed to do a little bit of tweaking of the line in a few areas. Enjoy! :-D

Just for kicks, here's a lo-poly 3D model I did years ago...kinda fits the character.

I did some referencing for the truck

my crud wip.
April 12th, 2007 #13
Not too sure about my initial sketch, may go back to the drawing board and make it more readable as a trucker - thought I dont know if him filling his space truck up at the garage is indication enough?
Here's where I'm at after working some more on todays sketch
Crud Buttowski is so proud of his body that he ordered his custom spacesuit in a flesh tint, he even went as far as having his tattoos painted on the suit. Crud isn't known for being the most tasteful creature in the galaxy.

Wow, Great work so far guys.
here's what i came up with.
April 12th, 2007 #15
Here's a preliminary of my entry. I wanted to do something a little different, so I put him in a pea cap and make him more of a teamster.
Slow going here. I've had a rough week: trans-Pacific flight, fell asleep at the gate, missed a connection and had to sleep on the Houston airport floor. Here's the base of what I'm working on; if the final ends up a turkey, at least I've got an interesting design from which to model a new 3D character.
Curses! No time to finish this one, and it was just starting to show promise. On the upside, I did get to attend my wife's friend's wedding and kick back in Chapel Hill. Nice work, y'all.

Here's my WIP
I'm trying to think about other elements I can add to not make him look so cliche, but at the moment i'm a little too tired to think.

Originally in business as All-Space Family Movers, the intergalactic trucking concern now known as C.R.U.D. Buttowski came into being when partners Chuckie, Robbie and Uncle Dickie Buttowski failed to yield at an Asteroid Crossing after too much "weed, whites and wine." An Emergency Response Team from planet Mekka-Nikka MCLVIII gathered up the bits and pieces and was able to make on-site repairs, but having no knowledge of human anatomy, and little interest in it anyway, used all the recovered parts to build a single functioning maxi-mega-freight-hauling-machine.
Chuckie, Robbie and Uncle Dickie took it all in stride, applied for reconstituted single-entity status (and thereby dodged three ongoing investigations by the Intergalatic Revenue Service), re-incorporated as C.R.U.D. Buttowski, and ever since have driven all the spaceways, from Tuscon V to Tucumkerry 12, moving any cargo, anywhere. Their motto: "We'll haul anything, even your ass!"
whew! got this in before the big blizzard hit and (most likely) took down my power!

Huh, protruding bellys and sleeveless shirts must be some kind of universal trucker morphology.

Making his way through the stars in pantaloons and his one-of-a-kind atmo vest, Crud Buttowski knows a ready smile and a tip of the cap will get you through Customs a lot quicker than that tough guy act.

I was so encouranged by the 2 votes that I received for my chow debut piece that I decided to participate again for this week's character. Thanks David-david and edujante. Thanks too for those who gave feedback for my #66.
Started with sneak ballpen-on-printer-paper concepts at work ("Careful now. The whole floor is crawling with chartered accountants.")
I thought about just doing 2 vignettes, but the fun design took the better of me.
So in comes the "fourth wall" breaking center piece as the foreground.

here`s a quick WIP (about 40 min):
the deadline is today, and this is all the time I had for this one.
I`ll try and make some more time, and hopefully get it done.
if I miss it - I miss it.

Hi everyone!!! Long time no CHOW!
here is my entry, crits and comments welcome, cheers!
so, here's crud!! Hes just delivered some east brunswick flotatos, for the mega chip factory on chroma 5. The happy look on his face is probably there due to the fact that Cruds fave snack is the flotato chip! I think he will be spending some time on chroma 5, taking in the free samples he can expect for his delivery duties! Dont forget to tune in wednesdays for "Cruds CB Chatback" on the latest intergalactic news in trade!

This was a fun topic; like many others, I couldn't resist from exploiting the standard trucker stereotype. It was just too tempting to create an image of a fat trucker. I suppose if you're asked to create an immediately recognisable image of a trucker, you would portray a fat grizzly guy with a hat, and other trucker-style garments. The image I created still had some work to be done before I could truly call it finished, but I've grown slightly tired of looking at it.
There are some nice entries, as usual. In particular, I like foofoo's, Tom Garden's, and Penumbra's (even though it's not finished yet).
Any crits or comments would be appreciated; I'll try to save my comments for the poll.

Got a couple of hours to spare, so here's a quick entry:

Crudeline Brutowsky, an strong trucker, the only woman trucker in the universe

It's a big and varied universe, but nobody forgets the first time they met Crud.
