Man I love these, several really made me laugh. -the one with home star runner, it took me back to my days at school. the old guy in the brawl scene looks just like a hobo that ive known for years named daryl, and its comical to see him kicking random ass.. it also looks like you got some attractive life drawing models, -at least every once in a while. no us, our school tried to scare us out of drawing people i think :-p
April 14th, 2007 #13
hehe... trust me life drawing models with good figures at my school are a rareity my friend. Some of these are actually from a website that has photos of nude models for figure drawing (it's a pay site).
I'm glad you saw the old guy as a hobo. I was going for something of a "Homeless Hero" kind of motif : )
Here's my first quick study of an environment in photo shop

Heya, Mike! It's Kelly - thought I'd join up and drop by...!
Yeah, I do recognize a lot of the stuff from class - in fact, I see myself in the background of two of the portrait head pics, heheh.
I totally love your Photoshop work, I haven't even gotten close to that level yet!
And I like the warrior with the severed head, the pose looks great. Ah, you make me feel bad for not practicing more Your anatomy + proportions are great.
My portfolio-ish site is kellymcc.com. I'm kind of embarrassed to post it after looking at some of these threads and artwork, heh, but I guess I'm still trying to find my style. (Excuses!)
Anyway, I'll be sure to hang around CA a little more, and keep up on your posts, maybe make some of my own!
April 17th, 2007 #16
Thanks for dropping by my thread Kelly! Your stuff is looking pretty cool too though. I like the dynamic poses.
As for a post for tonight, I learned that not everything works in a composition... like a pasty white guy flying through the air in a fight scene : )
The reason I changed the guy from wearing a jacket to nothing was to bring continuity to the other fighters attacking the bum so the image would read as "naked guy clan fighting bum" instead of "random dudes kicking eachothers asses" (which my girl friend kindly pointed out). What I will do now instead of the fat guy, is place an insignia or tattoo that would tag them as a clan of sorts... kinda sucks that i wasted time but I learnt somethin! Good night yall... yall being anyone who actually reads this thread : (
April 17th, 2007 #17
no doubt...i am still learning but as i see from your work..you have much more patience than i do...i need to work on that...i wish you labeled wich of your sketches are from reference and which arent..did you have refs for that fight scene?..which by the way is pretty fuckin dope..aight man..later..DKAL
April 18th, 2007 #18
Thanks for the words DeKal : ) I used loose referance for the characters in the fight scene meaning I used a few different photographed poses for each character and tweaked them afterward to get the pose I liked. As far as the patience thing goes I know what you mean... could use a bit more myself : /
Here are my finalized pieces for anatomy. It's a master copy of Michalangelo, a skeleton overlay and a muscle overlay.
The coloring took roughly 10-20 minutes per piece. Good night!!

Wouch! You're lifedrawings are great, and you're good with PS. That enviroment pic you did in OS is sweet, dig the soft colors and use of brushes. The warrior standing with a head in post #4 is niiiice! I believe I have seen some of the drawings beforer, in the FF section? ANyways the first one is really beautiful.

hey srry i havent checked ur book in awhile or even replied to ur post in mine.
You asked if i was in school or not. the answer is no, i only ever took art class in highschool, and then ive just taught everything to myself since. read lots of books etc. etc. and watched gnomon dvds.
Dude those sculptures are wicked. The reason i havent posted in a long time is cos i went out and bought some sculpting supplies of my own and have been working on my own scuplture, which is almost finished and will showcase in my sb soon.
Anyhow, that painting of the dude getting skewered is sweet. I love the dynamic appeal and composition so much. I feel sorry of the dude. lol he just got jumped and it doesnt look like its gonna get any better.
Outstanding stuff as always.

Hey, yeah, the fight scene is coming along great. I like the guy you've filled in at the front, the foreground/mid/background are really distinctly defined, looks awesome. I see you've given the white guy his coat back, ha.
That big light at the top is nice, really gives a sense of atmospherics.
And nice portrait of Claudio, btw, heh, I had fun on that one.

Hey Mike, Really awesome stuff man, especially your figuredrawing stuff. Heh, Academy of Art? I saw your drawing with the lying girl at the foundation winter show, it melted my face off. Anyways, keep up the good work man. Maybe I'll see you around at school. Peace,
April 24th, 2007 #29
Thanks Petur. Your stuff is pretty cool too man. You have a really cool style. I'll definitely be frequenting your sb ; ) Its always good to find other academy students on the forums. I need to meet more of us cuz i live outside the dorms and it's hard to get to really know anybody. You go to any of the workshops?
Up through the night drawing... this is what I did.
unfinished and unfinished... but they will be finished eventually
