Question That All Have Asked, Few Can Answer

Do you know what your Purpose in life is as an artist?

The sadest thing about a cemetary is not the number of the dead that it holds, but the number of unrealized purpose and potential that it represents.

Every artist has asked these questions:
Who am I? Why am I here?
    What is my Purpose?

Many have never found the answer.

My purpose is to try and make something cool, or if I ever get good enough, something beautiful.
It's an ugly world, if I could tip things even 0.0001% towards non-ugly, I'd be happy.

    there is another world,
    there is a better world,
    well, there must be.

Purpose is in the eye of the beholder. A sunflower seed's purpose, to a finch, is to feed the finch. The seed's purpose, to the sunflower, is to grow a new sunflower. How many different purposes could the lowly sunflower seed have? Maybe even an infinite number? If a sunflower seed could potentially have many different purposes, what's this talk about a person having only one?

Every artist has asked these questions:...What is my Purpose?
though this would be assuming everyone believes that each individual has a purpose

Given your precedent of lounge posts I think the correct answer is to render glory unto the lord, or similar. However, it is in my opinion preferable that - if you want to make religiously motivated threads - you do not obfuscate the intent as it may come across as disingenuous if you start prosyletising later on in the thread. Correct me if I'm out of line but your track record has a certain theme to it. It is perfectly okay to use the capital G straight up.

That said, my purpose as an artist is to precipitate certain extremely scary events of Sumerian eschatology. There will be flaming, floating pyramids.

my purpose is to take up space until i no longer take up space.
and the sad thing about a graveyard is that it will one day be full . but dont be sad cause one day the sun will run out of hydrogen and supernova and every person every species plant and animal except the bugbear will all be cremated in an instant. the only sad part about that is why i cannot justify a reason for anyone to save humanity from that fate.

    Hey Snarfev-

Sorry for not immediatley responding, I had to look up some those words from your post.

    But seriously:

No hidden agenda or hidden plan to convert responders here!

Just wanted to post a poll with a question that I've asked myself.

there is no there reason.. no denying purpose, because as we both know, whithout purpose, we would not exist..

it is purpose that created us,
    purpose that connects us,
    purpose that pulls us,
    that guides us,
    that drives us..
    it is purpose that defines,
purpose that binds us.. Mr. Anderson.

My purpose in life as an artist is to amuse myself. So I guess my answer would be "Yes, I do". Just out of curiosity have you read Sam Harris's book, Letter To A Christian Nation? I can see that you are very much into religion by the majority of your posts in the lounge. Although I am considered an "Atheist" I still respect religion. The reason I am asking if you read Sam Harris book is because I want a point of view from someone I do not know and from someone who understands the bible. Most of the people I know would prefer not talk about anything that doubts the bible. If you did not read it yet than ignore my post.

One's purpose is what they make it. There's nothing to know or "find".. it's something you create yourself. It's a false dichotomy, so I didn't answer the poll

Well said, Tully, though I think there may be room for your postulate within snipes' dichotomy when the question of whether a purpose has been created or not becomes the binary operator instead of whether one knows or not. Hope that made sense.....

I want it all. I want it all! I want it all and I want it now!

    *sulks*

But really, I think I'll be content to be your average faceless nobody. Some acclaim would be cool, and I'd be awesome if 100 years after I'm dead people look at stuff I've done and say "cool!"

Anyone spending time contemplating such utterly pointless questions is wasting time that they could be spending actually DOING something.

Honestly, this kind of stuff is for high school kids.

My purpose as an artist is that same as my overall self-chosen purpose in life: to do as much good for humanity as possible, and as little harm, while pursuing my own happiness.
I think you are awesome, and I wish you the best in your endeavors, but I am tired of repeating myself, I am very busy with my new baby, and I am no longer a regular participant here, so please do not contact me to ask for advice on your career or education. All of the advice that I have to offer can already be found in the following links. Thank you.

Purpose... to inspire, to teach, to learn, to grow, to innovate, and to, like Slash- leave a dent in the beat-up Lexus that we call History. I just want people who never knew me to know me through my art. No false interpretations, no "leave it up to the audience" symbolism. I want to make art with a definite purpose, which I think is my purpose.

I do not so muc hhave a purpose, I was not driven to do this by some exterior force, but I do have goals. First of which is to attain a full-ride scholarship to any of the schools I apply to. Sceond is to be able to draw some of my favorite comics series: Runaways, Batman, X-men. Third create or help create my own comic. 4. Make a GOOD webcomic or aid in its creation
