    Hellgater of the 3rd Hades Plane---updated 04.03. more pencils

    Always inspiring to see everyone's work, so thanks for sharing and conversing. Recently, I've been in a long working haul here at Flagship, wrapping up Hellgate: London. The game is looking great and cannot wait to see it shipped.

    Whenever I get a moment, I sketch/paint/draw as much as possible. Usually only have 1 hour max per day to play. This piece took a collective of 6 hours. Learning alot of how to pace myself and to leave something unfinished for later completion. Normally, 1 hour per piece and DONE!

    Anywho. I love the idea of an imaginative hell that is appealing and on the verge of grotesque. Barlowe reigns supreme, but never the less it's still a vast universe to explore. Many untold species and planes to see.
    -J-

    Here is an original sketch of the design. It's changed a bit compared to the final. And some extra random drawings from my sketchbook.

    wakazou---> THanks dood, I will!

    Mattinian---> I hear you about the eye/eyes. Been on the fence about adding that in, kinda like it without them.

    JAG---> Funny you say that, I had the front much MUCH darker. Was trying to hold true to the light source which is behind him. Figuring out a realistic amount of bouncing/refracting light that would illuminate his front kept me guessing.

    well, maybe using a lighter color for the front garb.. maybe?? that way at least the detail will show up better against the lighter backing while not having to mness much with the light/shadows. i dunno, just a suggestion, you're the professional here - JAG

    The sketch is the best... I like the colored version too, but the pencils do it so much more justice! KUDOS

    completely different from what i've usually seen from you-refreshing change! i had to triple check after each pencil sketch that it was your work because i've never seen any pencils from you. NICE!

    Pleasantly suprised that everyone digs the pencils. I've been praticing my kung-fu.

    NateVanDyke---> You crack me up. I read into that too literally. Looks like we willl be neighbors soon.

    Stark---> One of my co-workers said the same thing. Whenever I start painting, I always end up vering off the path and explore. It's a bad habit of mine.

    Quatermass---> Cannot get enough of his work. Out of anything, I am just contributing to his universe.

    synthetINK---> I actually stopped looking at his work for awhile, but seems that his style has sunk into my head a bit. I also have to give some street credit to Wes and Marko for influence as well.

    nicolas---> Damn dood, thanks a million. As I have mentioned before, I think the world of your work. Do you have any pointers on the painting? Always looking to improve and learn something.

    Aleksi---> Yer too sweet. lol... you make me laugh... yes... many bad nights inspire more ideas and monsters. How is your book coming along? Always eager to see new work from you.

    romance---> Yeah, I need to post more often. Trying to finalize Hellgate right now which is taking up too much time. Looking foward to this summer when the game is out and can share more often.

    Carnifex---> Funny you say that, cause I do have many skills up my sleeve. My work can be very versitale to the point where each style could be done by a completely different artist.

    steak-tron---> Shit, you should see the peope that ride the bus. Another world at times.

    Tabasko---> That's cool to hear... it's a big reason why I love this forum as well. Tons of inspiration.

    Living Rope---> That is one of the best compliments, thank you man! Made my year. Its hard to know if I am ever progressing or evolving. BTW.. hit me up when you can.

    James Kei---> You are making me blush... thank you.

    JAG---> I hear you and think it's a good suggestion.

    Bradh898---> Glad that you digs

    Phattro ---> I've got a book full of pages like theses.

    Here is another page that I scanned in and dressed up a bit.
