    Janto's Sketchpad (nudity-ish)

Hello all, since this is the first piece of art I've posted here, introductions first. My name's Janto, I'm a graphic Designer, which I got into through drawing from an early age. These pieces here are all quite old, most over a year, because I kind of lost touch with the joy of creating art. I've paintings and drawings waiting to be finished, and frankly Graphic Design's starting to bore me, so I'm making a big push to get back into the swing of things. Hopefully, I'll be putting up a lot more pieces here.

These pieces are sort of related (and sort of unfinished) The first two are concept portraits for main characters. The concept was for a graphic novel based on a fantasy world's WW1 equivalent, playing with ideas of social class = fantasy race. So rather than being good elves etc. versus evil orcs or so on, elves are the nobility on both sides, squandering the lives of their goblin and human footsoldiers.

or maybe not. Well, if the Machine tell's me it's not acceptable to post, who am I to argue.

This piece is related to the above, called the Soot Storm, shows soldiers advancing after a dragon attack. (WIP)

Now these are rough, quick sketches to work on building the human form to proportions.

Interesting stuff so far. I like the style that you did the Bedouin warrior in, though the background is kinda blah. I think I would try to put it on a darker background. Even though it seems like a quick paint, making the background a darker color (even if it is still solid) will add to the atmosphere I think.

I like the direction that the Soot Storm is going in. The concept of WWI-style gas mask dragon killers seems cool. I wouldn't mind seeing this one developed more.

Here's a self portrait - been a while since I've drawn myself, and this one was done at night, on the train, using my reflection in the window - based on the non-ideal conditions, I think it came through pretty well!

The color stuff looks good. Make sure to keep your sketchbook with you and draw everything you see!
The last self portrait does look good for where you drew it. Id watch some of the head's proportions though.
    Ireland huh?I envy you.

Well, I've been out of action for a good while, but here's some of the stuff I've been working on, various character designs, concentrating especially on a character for a kid's book. Annoyingly, I drew her perfectly the first time and then spent ages trying to get that vibe back.

Good stuff. I'd say by these images that you suffer from the same affliction as my self. I call this affliction. Face Itis. The desire to draw only heads and partial figures in ones sketchbook. It's a very strong compulsion and I too am snared by it's cruel influence. But there is hope. Try to push on and draw the whole figure and then show the figure in relation to the ground it is standing on/ in. Keep posting and don't give up on the creativity!

Ps: Please don't be offended by my paltry attempt at humor above. I'm just in a good mood and letting you know that I do the same things in my sketchbooks as well.

    Cheers.
