Andy Welcome!! I've always appreciated all the advice that you give in ImagineFX! You've really helped open new ways on how to approach my artwork, and helped me reach the next level. You're extremely talented and your work is quite inspiring.

Question, when working on God of War, you're tackling a broad range of subject matter, out of all of it, what is your favorite thing to work on and your least favorite? When your on something that doesn't motivate you, what do you do to help push yourself forward and get the job done? Also and last question for a fledgling Concept Artist, when putting together a portfolio, do you recommend having a broad range of topics that you can hit or do you focus on the one particular thing that you're good at, i.e. creatures or characters?

Thanks Andy, I appreciate your time and I'm a big fan of your work!!!

sourgasm- thanks! Yeah, I like him as well. I saw the final 3D model built and he doesn't look quite as cute. oh well.

paulturalski- The game's going really well. I'm having a blast working on the game. I can't wait for everyone to see what we've been doing. It's looking really good. I'm lucky to work with such a talented team here at Sony Santa Monica.

    Fourth Nail- Thanks!

    englishduke- Thanks so much!

phoenicorn- I appreciate the kind words!

ozan- I appreciate your comment. Thanks!

corspufo- I'm so glad you liked the little advice/tutorials I was able to give in the issues of ImagineFX. It's definitely nice to know. As far as God of War is concerned, I enjoy concepting the different creatures and characters in the game. My least favorite is concepting weapons/props. I'm just more of a character/creature guy. When I'm working on something that I'm not really excited about I just have to still do my best job on it. You're not always gonna work on cool characters and stuff. It's all part of the job. So I just take things as they come and try to make what I'm working on as fun as I can. Sometimes I try approaching the design and painting in different ways from painting with different brushes to putting the wacom aside and actually drawing on paper (which seems to be really rare these days), whatever I can think of to keep things interesting. Also, looking at other people's art is always a great motivator. And as far as your portfolio is concerned, I've heard both arguments- a centered portfolio vs. a broader portfolio. I guess I would say that your portfolio should definitely emphasize your strength whether it be characters, creature, environments, etc. Usually it's one of these things. Then you can supplement it with other areas of design... but only if they're strong too. Don't put them in if they're not of professional quality. Then it will just hurt your portfolio. But I am a big proponent on diversifying your skills. I say this mainly b/c it just opens up your chances of getting different jobs. But also keep in mind that a lot of studios don't hire you b/c you can do it all, they usually are looking for something specific. Your diversified skills usually help you once you're in a company, but to land a job usually requires a centered strength in your portfolio. I could go on and on, but I hope that helps a bit. Good luck!

    KidKazuya- Thanks!

jabraniho- Thanks Jung! I can always do Curry House! Kima curry!

louis cypher- hey thanks so much! I appreciate it!

    Fredio- Thanks!

Hey Andy, great update. That top image is fantastic and I think the creature sketches are awesome too.

On the Craftsman designs how did they respond to how you changed the scale of the different tools relative to one another? It also seems that the forearms are rather short on all of these, was there a reason for this?
