Hey dude! Thanks for dropping by my sketchbook earlier.
Your stuff looks good! The only words I'd leave you are to be careful not to draw only from reference. As much as it seems to work and as good as it can look, its really hindering your ability to produce solid original work. It was good to see those hand and feet studies, perhaps if you did more of them and even some drawings of people or things round the house. Besides all that, you have a strong sense of line work, and some really great looking sketches here! Good luck, and keep going!

ChaoticKnight: Thanks! I agree, I certainly need to flex the imagination muscle far more often. Working on it.

Nice stuff! I love the detail in the Wolverine close-up, and, scrolling through the comic heroes, the unicorn gave me a bit of a shock!
Ah, the 80's rock! Good taste, good taste.

    re

Haha, I get all nostalgic looking at your sketchbook. It has a lot of fun characters that I watched at one moment. Ninja Turtles, GI Joe, Spider Man, etc. What I would suggest for fun is take one of those character and apply a totally different spin with a different styles. Just like some of your unicons you drew them in different styles which I think is neat. Keep posting. I like some of your pencil shading for your comic book style.

You got to paint on peoples faces, I would get nervous

Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!

Seriously, this is now one of my fave sketchbooks. ever.

I love your work, man... everything from Jesus to Heroes in a Half-Shell (Turtle Pwr!) and your hand studies, and your uber-amazing tigers (green, even!), and your face-painting skillz! (that's waaaay harder than it looks, i know ) Madison's a lucky (and adorable!) little girl... her daddy can draw like nobody's bizness!

    Cheers

    Look, see! Nifty art! http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=99803

At last, some original creature sketchies! Too bad they suck. Sorry about the poor scans, too. Just wasn't feeling it last night...ugh...

I do kinda' like this one, though. I think I'll work on him some more.

I'm going to see the Police tommorrow in Dallas, wheeee! I hope I'll have some better ideas when I get back.

Back from Dallas (happy birthday to me!). The Police were uber f*kin' spectacular. Seriously. Plus my seat was kick-ayess. 2 1/2 hour layover in Lubbock Monday afternoon due to heavy thunderstorms. Did this part of the time while I was waiting in the terminal...

They actually let cameras in the AA center. Awesome. I was much closer than these appear, just not the best camera. Still got some pretty good shots...

Going to work some more on that robot from earlier and that maul tommorrow. Sleep, good...zzZZzz...

ahhh... sweet nostalgia, okay so maybe I came in a little late for this to be truely nostalgic. But what the hell, I grew up with the turtles too (early 90's ftw!) ^_^

Mostly just kudos from me, although you could work on your turtles a little bit. Love you wolverines though, man he looks pissed! That last face painting struck me as being really good, you should be proud of that one. How long have you been an artist?

I think the problem with pen&ink is that there is no Ctrl+z command.

writers and artists have a lot in common -- we both draw from life, we both paint pictures, and we'll both spend to many sleepless nights on our work.

Markey2d, Seaport, Gunther409, AlexC, sease, and -(ZEN)- : Thanks to all for checking in and all the kind remarks

Gunther409- I guess I've been drawing seriously off and on since age 13...about 17 years now (holy crap, reality check). I know those turtles look kinda'...neeeh...but just realize I only posted them for, let's say, historical purposes. I drew those when I was 13 and just getting into art. I'd hate to add anything to them now, being ancient relics and all...

AlexC- Word. Thanks for the props. I really dig your stuff, I was hoping you would eventually drop by. Good to see you.

Sease- Long live the 80's! That won't be the last of the retro from me, as I am a huge 80's geek, as previously stated...stay tuned. Same bat-time, same bat-channel. (Ok, so that was the 60's batman tv series. Not 80's. Sue me, if you dare Adam West.)

This may be as far as Maul goes. I'm really bad about giving up on a drawing once the fun part is over, as evidenced by all the half-assed drawings in this thread. I wanted/needed to push the values further, but I'm just tired of shading him. Maybe he'll get more attention somewheres down the road...
