I love the effect u used with the boogyman, going from pure black to rougher and rougher crosshatching, awesome. Especially that u made it come back in the lettering.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! The book isn't finished yet but I plan on trying to get it published once it is.

Working on my portfolio. Seņor Juņor Pisco from a pen-and-paper role-playing session I'm playing with some friends.

Mr Quigley crafted so cleverly as always - I'm sure it will be an excellent book!

But my goodness your colour works are such a treat to the eyes - masterfully created ... thank you for the pleasure of seeing them. They are honestly an inspiration and encouragement ... is it all done in photoshop? seems so accurate and clean .. Illustrator with effects?

    Whichever keep rocking!

As usual, thanks guys! You always make my day.

The7Artist7: Thank YOU for enjoying them! I'm always if I manage to inspire people. It IS all Photoshop - I just prefer that clean look. I try to make it look a bit like a mix between painting and 3D, if that makes sense.

Here are some simple character design practice I did a while back. You know, the kind of thing you should do every day but don't.

Man.... all photoshop eh! Wowzers.. how? how DO you get such clean line in PS... love the clean style myself too - but I use illustrator and set up natural feeling brush.

I am yet more impressed - now I ask is it all freehand or do you use any kind of tool to help 'keep things clean'... I must practice! as so far most of my PS work is a bit more on the rough side.

Loving the lil studies - hehehe

Well, it doesn't really start out that clean as you can see in this first sketch. Mostly rough lines here.

    Name: pisco1.jpg

I start coloring the layer underneath and then merge it with the sketch-layer. After that I always keep the character in a single layer. This way I find it easy to erase and "clean" the lines the way I want it, kind of like shaping a clay sculpture.

I almost exclusively use the ordinary round brush with different settings, and sometimes one of the natural brushes that came with Photoshop. Other brushes work better for some textures and such, but most of the time I like to stick to the basics.
The only other tool I use to "keep it clean" is to finish it off with a sharpness filter, which is about the only Photoshop filter I find useful. I like how it gives the painting that final touch.

Hope this made things a little clearer.

Nice one - Thanks dude! I'm impressed - working in a single layer with that kind of tight detailing and colour work +1 for awesome skills! Ah a fellow 'keep it to the basics' artist - good stuff

    I must practice this style!

Fniss: Well... Rough is a relative term, I suppose.

It seems I forgot about this SB over the summer. I've been very, very busy working on an iPhone game, so there hasn't been much to post here. I'll post some stuff from that once it's finished, but here's some other stuff in the meantime!

Some stuff I've been doing for a Dutch delivery company:

    Some random stuff:

Hhaha those frogs are awesome man!
Keep rocking, your cartoon design is great! I see you handle expressions very good too.
I just find the anatomy of the body on Batman sketch a bit off with the rest style if you want my opinion.
    Also, nice colors perspective!
    Cheers!

knut-: Actually, I'm pretty sure that's exactly why I'm not all that eager to finish it. If I ever do I think I'll have to rethink the whole design. Thanks for the input!

I do like the head though. Maybe I'll remake it into a portrait.
