Welcome to CA. Nice sketch you have here. I know you said this one is from high school, but since I have no other pieces to crit on, Ill crit this one, Your rendering is pretty good, but the lines could be a little cleaner. And try to use more values when rendering and shading. Keep it up.

Hi there, not many comments... so I'll contribute. I like your first work the best, it's the most refined one too IMO. The sketch in #7 is good too, I like the high contrast ink stuff.

The one in #6 - the hand looks too small to me - very sketletal even in the face but that's perhaps what you were going for.

In #5 you're having hand issues again, I suggest you try to work on them some more... hands that is.

Anyways, keep posting, hopefully other people better qualified than me can comment on your works.

Thanks for your comments! I agree that not many of these are refined... and the reason (logically) is that they are literally from my sketchbooks. My finished works aren't up.

As for hand issues... yes, I admit I don't spend a lot of time on hands unless I am doing detailed illustrations (and a bad habit of mine...).

Nice work you have here. I really like the colors you chose for the cape. The swirly/flame design is really nice.

The sad thing is that I prefer monochromatics over color. ;-) Thanks BludHund, B Anne. I might turn the spider-castle into a more fleshed out work sometime later (I have too much on my plate right now). Mr. Magtheus VI will pop out more once the background is in place. Coming soon!

    Hey Novenus!
I love that mobile castle. I think you should push that idea.
The colours and design on Magtheus VI are nice to look at.

    Keep updating!

that red bg in the latest piece is pretty loud! Might want to tone it down a bit.

Here's a good read for gestures: Especially since you want to become a character animator!

I was going for a Soviet constructivist feel for the CHOW... which I didn't end up finishing (hence the red).

and no, I don't want to be a character animator... but thanks for the suggestion and link!

Hah, I was totally sure I had visited your sketchbook already, and now I see I didn't! Me and my mixing up people... seems like a favorite hobby.

Love your castle in the first post - would love to see it finished even more! And the Magtheus character sure is special, wonderful patterns and colors. There's an amazing amount of fantasy implied in your pictures - you should post more of your finished work here, makes it easier to get a grasp of your full skills!

Is that soldier in #5 have really short left arm, or is he suffering from having too small a left hand.

Alright... if I had left it at that, would that be a great critique of your work, or even a valid comment? Not in the least, it would be outright idiocy. but to tell the truth, it would be less stupid as the comment you posted in jc066’s sketchbook thread, because she asked for helpful critiques or suggestions in her first post, unlike you. There is stuff about yours that I could suggest some ways to actually make them 3 dimensional rather then the flat look they have right now, but it seems you do not wish for help so I won’t. Maybe you’re a good guy/gal that was just in a hurry and left a stupid/unhelpful comment on another persons thread, but I suggest if your gonna leave comments, actually do the work and put some thought into them. Goodluck with improving your artwork, and your ability to comment on other peoples posts.

Actually, I wouldn't have cared either way. those are sketches that I did back when I was in high school... more than 16 years ago. I just put them up on the sketchbook because they are just that... sketches. I would appreciate you not taking things so personally... especially on works that are not your own. If you want to see my crits, go search for my crits... and see the paintovers I do for some. This isn't to pat myself on the back or to justify myself but damn, I never had anyone question me or my intention on something here before. I just call things as they are. And yes, I was in a rush for that one post. If you don't like what I write, ignore it. It's really that simple.
