Cow C.o.w. Lava swimmer (+ 31.3 different pic)

Well, this section usually intimidates me pretty much, but since responses to this piece have been generally positive i thought i'd post it here aswell.

    The final product:
    Attachment 110216
    (copied from cow thread)
A mix between fish and insect, born blind, approx. 3-5 meters long. The hard chitin armor guards against the hight temperature, with cooling bags located directly beneath. It has no eyes because of said temperature. Instead it uses the sensitive antennae on top of the head to catch vibrations in the air, locating birds and other creatures above the lava, and,in rare cases, creatures in the lava. Usually a slow creature,as not to burn too much energy, but quick when it strikes. Occasionally known to eat mineral-rich rocks to gain energy.

The steps (after that last one,i pretty much completely reworked the "face",plus additional texture and lighting stuff).

and last but not least, a little fun pic i made after all the noodling. (which i happened to include in the final piece aswell). suggested to look like a blurry, overexposed photograph.

    Hope you like. Comment away
    Cheers.

not bad man, I think you`ve done a believable creature for that habitat
I like the front part the most, the tail doesn`t really look like chitin armor for me - you could get this look by using differnt segments which taper in the end or something like that

like i already told you, some lava splahes in the fake pic would have helped. But then again, its one of your best and most professional pieces so far.

Do more like stuff like this

    keep sharing!

Very interesting the mix between the fish and the insect, really good the result.
I prefer the version with grey background respect "photograph" version, some waves could be great!

Great to see you in the FF, Carni.
You're stepping up your game, congrats, bro!

as a crit, it might be nice to see some larger brush strokes as well as the super tight detailed ones.

sorry for taking so long to reply, university's kept me busy (amongst others).
    for some replies:
asoir - "in the air" as in "jumped out"? if yes, that's what i was aiming for.
guterrez - thanks for the suggestion,i might try it out when i've time again.
thegnoll - thanks alot man. i admit i was too tired to add that extra punch to the enviro pic after all the noodling on the final pic.
    dkounios - thanks man.
leonardob - thanks same as with gnolls suggestion, tiredness i'm afraid
sourgasm - thanks. the mouth is approximately like those worms in "dune", the front opens into a petal like shape.
mainloop - i feel honoured hearing this from you.
interceptor - thanks,i think i know what you mean. since this was the first really finished pic to be 100% digi (no pencil sketch) it was hard to do
    john,anurizm - thanks alot.

ok,something entirely different, done for fun, which i consider finished. i'm just not sure how to handle the ground. :/
    hope you like aswell.
