Freaky bondage gear going on! Have you thought of any concept behind the creature...?

His/Her/Its head and face seem to join right into the body without a neck. Is this part of the creature's anatomy?

Aahhh man. Its killing me. Everyone keeps saying "did you mean to give it no neck?" LOL. I think thats a good indication its not working like its supposed to. I think maybe if I fill in the left side some more it will help. The idea is its skin is pulled up over its head so if there is a neck you couldn't see it but it really doenst have much of one anyway. Also, i wanted a boney plate behind its head... think i need to flesh that out some more too.

I'll try to add in some more colors to it... I'm so freaked it will come out looking cartoonish.... ahh well. I try anyway.

    Thanks much guys!

So I used to think doing still life would be completely boring. Honestly its pretty damn chalenging and I feel like I lear quite a bit. Here are two that I've done. I feel like it helps me to see how light is affecting the colors of the objects im painting. Good stuff.

Cool environment. It sets a defined mood that you ovbiously are in contorl of. very emotional!

Digging the old sketchbook and still life study too. The surface of the camera is excellant....good highlights. It feels reflective.

I like the first few pages of your Sketchbook, especialy the nazi themed cahracter - very nice work

Also your digital work is progressing nicely. The bondage/creepy creature is definatly your strongest so far.

    Keep it up!

The first few pencil sketches are really nice! I like your rendering of light and dark using the pencil. I especially like the crazy/scary bird at the top.

hey bro, alaska huh? freakin chilly up there?
i like what your doing, its hard to give you descent advice because you know what you gotta do, so you just gotta keep doing it. the studies are a great idea.
id suggest doing studies for half your drawing time (be it daily or whatever) then apply what you have just learnt to the more fun stuff (creatures etc).
its really rewarding to do that study and then be able to twist it in a believable manner.

keep up the good work dude, coming along great.
btw dont stress on the enviros too much, one thing at a time eh?

Hi Donovan! You've some really nice work in here, especially in the pencil works. How long have you been working with digital for? It took me a good year or so of messing about with it before something suddenly clicked and I started to get it. You might find hunting about for some different brush sets handy, I've found it made a big difference to my work when I found a brush that felt right in photoshop.

Really liking the first stages of your latest digital piece with the woman and freaky arms, the anatomical looks pretty good. Would like to see you try out some different colours in with it. By all means use the beigey colour as a background and ambient overall colour (which you could well be doing, in which case ignore me completely!), but skin can be all kinds of colours you wouldn't expect, blues and greens, purples and reds. Some brighter than other, admittedly! It seems to be somethign you do with a lot of your digital stuff, shading it in progressively lighter and darker shades of the same colour.

Also, have you tried simply colouring over the sketches you have there? Leaving the line work showing while you put colours in below it, then going over the top in some places to cover other bits up? Might allow you to get to grips with the whole colour thing without worrying too much about what you're drawing too.

Its been a bit since I did an update so here goes.

The first the the original sketch for the disfigured many armed girl above. I did the digi without looking at the original and I think it may have been a mistake. To me, the sketch seems much more punchy. Heh, another lesson learned.

The next is a sketch I did after reading the story of the Nephilim over at wikipedia. Very good biblical story. It seems there is already quite a bit of pop culture based on that general story line.
