Thread: Montag's sketchbook
March 16th, 2007 #1
Someone said I should make a sketchbook so... Well, yes
My first sketch is from a glass that was sitting next to my CRT the other night, done in the CA sketcher app.
The idea was to draw the caustics, which is a lot harder to do in 2D than with 3D software, as it turns out...

This is something I drew a year ago:
This was one of the three or four things I did during my 'burn out' phase where I basically didn't make any art for about two years. After I got out of college... I just didn't want to make art. Every time I went for a pencil or a pen, or a paint brush, I'd get stressed out.
I'm sure that being stressed out 24/7 while making art on a deadline day in and day out for four years straight had nothing to do with it though

Almost forgot to put some color on it. Time to go back to bed now. Sleep deprivation is a bad habit to have.

Hey Guy Montag,
you know that Montag in german means monday, well nevermind!
So you did a nice start with your sketchbook,
as somebody who drew thousends of elipses and circles i may say that
your elipses are too sharp at the left and right side,
watch a cup or anything like that and you will see!!
Have fun and continue!

Yeah, I need to practice more on the ellipses - putting circular objects into perspective has always been a bitch for me.

I made a head today (with a little help from tex and niklas on the lips and ear), getting my wonderful skin tones via the 'throw big splotches of purple, brown, red, dark green and a bit of yellow and mix them around' method. Works pretty well actually:

This is the result of a quick sketch where I tried to draw the right eye first and the other features out from there, rather than the usual 'draw whole head, divide into quadrants, put in features from there' style.
The anatomy looks somewhat off to me. If anyone could give me some helpful criticism on what to fix, I'd appreciate it.
