    Montag's sketchbook

Someone said I should make a sketchbook so... Well, yes

My first sketch is from a glass that was sitting next to my CRT the other night, done in the CA sketcher app.

The idea was to draw the caustics, which is a lot harder to do in 2D than with 3D software, as it turns out...

This is something I drew a year ago:

This was one of the three or four things I did during my 'burn out' phase where I basically didn't make any art for about two years. After I got out of college... I just didn't want to make art. Every time I went for a pencil or a pen, or a paint brush, I'd get stressed out.

I'm sure that being stressed out 24/7 while making art on a deadline day in and day out for four years straight had nothing to do with it though

Almost forgot to put some color on it. Time to go back to bed now. Sleep deprivation is a bad habit to have.

    Hey Guy Montag,

you know that Montag in german means monday, well nevermind!

So you did a nice start with your sketchbook,
as somebody who drew thousends of elipses and circles i may say that
your elipses are too sharp at the left and right side,
watch a cup or anything like that and you will see!!

    Have fun and continue!

    Xaya

Yes, I go by "Mr Monday" on occasion

Yeah, I need to practice more on the ellipses - putting circular objects into perspective has always been a bitch for me.

I made a head today (with a little help from tex and niklas on the lips and ear), getting my wonderful skin tones via the 'throw big splotches of purple, brown, red, dark green and a bit of yellow and mix them around' method. Works pretty well actually:

    Montag's sketchbook

This is the result of a quick sketch where I tried to draw the right eye first and the other features out from there, rather than the usual 'draw whole head, divide into quadrants, put in features from there' style.

The anatomy looks somewhat off to me. If anyone could give me some helpful criticism on what to fix, I'd appreciate it.

Quick sketch from tonight. The line / form is crap, but the idea is good fodder for a future drawing.

    animation of quick sketch

Made a quick sketch, though as it turns out, being intoxicated does not aid ones drawing abilities...

Animating it made it amusing enough to post though:

Drawn without a reference, so it has a few problems, but not too bad, all things considered.

Took a bit of a break due to not having internets for almost a straight month (moving sucks).

Not quite sure what it is. If it's still there tomorrow, perhaps I'll add some detail to it. Seem to be favoring red quite a bit these last two days.

Where's a copy of Bridgeman's Complete Guide to Dragon Anatomy when you need it?

A new one. I have no clue what it is, so I'm calling it 'The WTF?? Thing' for the moment. Maybe I'll incorporated it into something at a later point. If anyone wants to take a stab at deciding what it could be, comment away.

Did this in 15 minutes - one of the better things I've drawn so far I think.

Decided to do another one. Spent a bit more time on this one, probably about 45 minutes. Still can't get the color quite right. Hazel is a bitch to capture, it seems.
