update on taht pg9 wip
Hey man thanks for the kind words in my sketchbook!
I have one suggestion for you which is to read up a little bit on edges. Or if not read, then just give a little consideration to your edges in each piece. I say that because your paints tend to look a little like they are painted and then pasted onto the background colour. For a 3-D form to look convincing it should ideally have hard and soft edges (and everything in between).
I have done another paint of your torso modelled below, I hope you don't mind. I have gone a little too soft on the edges generally (eager to prove the point), but it gives some idea of what I mean above. Try to soften edges in shadow, or further away for example. If you look at objects around you considering edges you can slowly learn when and where to use them (what I'm trying to do currently)
I hope that helps.
its neat to see a lot of focused studies pal little samples of different objectives.
With values in your studies, do keep in mind that all highlights, or all darks, are not equal across different planes. Its something I know that you know, but looking at something like the top armored guy on this page makes me think all the armors highlights are all pretty equal. As well, don't be afraid to bring out a smudger or blend brush so add some softer areas where needed - it will only add more variety and realism. (the hard edges on the Swan clearly make the head stand out, though perhaps the body and wings are a tad too soft?)
hey jakers thanks for your comment!
working hard these days so every crit is worth gold!
i never used smudge or blend brushes - maybe its time to try them out
and your rigth about that highlight-darkness stuff its just that im not thinking
about anything when sketching - i should overcome this, im sure
heres some new stuff:
from cgtalk - dsg "the black sword"
and phew - dont ask me random skteching and arranging - lets call it
the sonemetalflowers taking a bath in cucurbit-flavoured lava
dont have to show too much this time - im drawing and painting pretty much this time, but since most of them are traditional drawings (my scanner is wrecked) or comissions, i cant show much, going to add a fat bunch of worknext time
but this time heres just a comission work i was allowed to show (concept for a sidescrolling pirate game - im also doing the gameart for this project so thers a lot to show soon )
comission stuff done for tuck siver's The cases of Francis Coltrane (its a comic)
(for big size click on this link)
(3dmodels and renders for testing proportions and lightning conditions)
huge improvements on your latest digitals! good things are coming, and that EoW looks great.
only critique might be the edges on some of your forms, but it looks like that's been pointed out and your addressing it.
keep rockin' it
well I haven't done enough paintings myself to judge yours but I have to say they look really good.

BIG THANK YOU GUYS!!
im so happy about every comment in this sketchbook this forum raised my interest and motivation for art for a long time, i finally decided to become more professional with art so im working damn hard at the moment, im now dreaming of a career as a freelance artist but its a long long way to go, i hope my skills would be good enough one day and i will do everything from now on to reach what i aimed...
Dope FiendThank you very much, im currently working on edges, so i hope ill get rid of that flaws someday
glad you like them, thank you for your visit!
Velocity KendallIm loving your artworks so its great to read you like mine
hehe thank you, your the master of improving fast!!
more wip pics of actual comission works for tuck siver's The cases of Francis Coltrane:
rendering that angel, i think this would be my first contribution to the "finally finished" section (when its finished )
(will post bigger image and wip steps when this is finished)
something for fun:
me luves that black swan!! more like those
wow all of these are interesting and seem to be pushing your skills - I'm all 'design' right now but you're making me want to paint! Killer shark, you nailed the values to a realistic level. The red/green final landscape is really powerful in a simple way so far...I dig it.
The angel's pose bothers me a bit...maybe the head is a little small even given the upshot, and the arm size could be a little off as well...care you post a larger one for a closer look?
Love the main in the suit right below that (with the rim lighting). Be careful to balance the pose though, hes leaning quite a bit imo.
awesome updates man. really nice lighting, and color choices. i agree with everyone that youve stepped up a level or two! def 5 stars.
edit : bumped you up to lucky star #5 ! ! !
so many comments!
wow kind words! thankyoufor the 5* aswell! now its time to rock this sketchbook!
yeah ill finish that one
Thankyou, long way to go till i call this "finished"
yeah i should join more daily sketch competitions, often brings out more "atmospheric" pieces
i know what you mean about the pose ill try to clean that up a bit, but even if i normally never refuse any crit, that head is so small because tthe angle is so tall (that was a rhyme so it cant be wrong)
Yeah! 5* but seriously comparingmy sketchbook wiuthother 5* sketchbooks im afraid if i didnt really deserve them ...
new wip of the angel above in bigger size, still a LOT to do, i think its the first time im working on something with that enthusiasm i was allways one of these never-finish-anything-guys since i never was really confident with my skills (im still not confident with them, but trying to finish stuff nonetheless )
and clouds from mind - really challenging to paint transitions between values that are just so slightly different..
id say they are well deserved! just keep posting work like you have been lately! no pressure! ha jk. no but youve really stepped it up a ton! great work! love this statue too!
wow those clouds are incredibly well rendered from imagination! Great work, and keep on doing what you're doing. Also, the rendering on that cloth is great too, so all round huge improvement!
