Heya, this is more to show my work process and my thoughts when I was working, hope this'll be abit help to some ppl~ *might need to wait a bit to load all the images, I tried to be a bit detail in showing the process*
Here're the brushes that I used for this piece, I don't really use much custom brushes compare to many other ppl~ I mainly use the 1st and 2nd brush to paint most of the stuff, while using 3rd 4th and 5th or other brushes to create a bit less boring bg,etc.
Here're the sample textures I played around with for Lava Swimmer~ I think they were from Mayang with a bit tweaking and alteration
Done~ I made each of the JPG the same size for all those that might want to save it and can go back and forth (or layer it in PS) to see exactly what was changed in each process C&C always welcome! Hope it helped a bit, c ya guys around!
thanks njoo! that really is helpful.. and so simple yet effective. thanks for taking the time to do this. you're an ace in my book - JAG
it's only after you've lost everything, that you're free to do anything..
Fantastic tutorial, i love your work. Great overall scene, I like the whimsical poses you always find, while still being strong as animals.
Mr. Hou, Thanks for taking the time to put this together for us! Its great to see the thought process of other artists, very inspiring, motivating. See ya on MSN messenger Chief!
Thank you njoo, i am young and often struggle with finishing a painting. You make it clear for me. Thank you once again.
Thanks for a brilliant tutorial! I love how you built up the backgrounds ephemeral details and brought everything to completion simultaneously. My eye is a bit mislead by the ambiguity of its legs/tentacles but they are rendered beautifully and now we can see the steps you took to do so.
Could you talk about your choice of lightsource and the transparency of the lava? Light around lava is very strange and slightly different in every reference image I found, as is the texture of the lava in different heat and consistancies. Your creature seems to be directly lit by a source and though its in a glowing hot substance the ambient light on it is not very strong.
Fantastic! Do you make your brushes as you go along, and decide what you need, or do you have a set that you start off with, and know you are going to be using ahead of time?
Wickedness is a myth invented by good people to account for the curious attraction of others.
